I am going to see if I can make these up. I last saw pricing at R900 each.

I can get the profiling done cheap. The rolling of the rim may cost a bit or maybe I can do that too. A fat weld and bend at the same time while it has heat in it.

Then some rubber insertion. Need to figure out a good glue to use.

    Thanks and cheers

    Hi Guys,

Earlier this year we became the proud owners of a Safari Xplorer 2010 and we love it! We already made some great weekend trips and a fantastic holiday to the Pyrenees in Spain. Our Jeep pulls the caravan with ease and the combination is very stable on & offroad. During the trips we had lots of interest from fellow campers as the Xplorer is quite a rare sight here. Over the years only a handful have been imported into The Netherlands!

The caravan is in great shape but I have one problem - the rain cover above the front tent hatch (bed) is worn-out and tore during the last trip. Unfortunately, I cannot buy parts for the Xplorer here in Europe and our emails to Jurgens/Campworld remained unanswered. Do you know of a shop/supplier in South Africa that we can contact to buy and ship such a cover?

    Many thanks in advance!

Welcome to the community and congratulations on your Xplorer. I wasn't even aware that CIJ were exporting to the Netherlands.

    You're actually in luck - I saw this yesterday on our local Gumtree;

    https://www.gumtree.co.za/a-caravans...20910812368009

It's too far for me to inspect, but it looks like a local dealer that is selling excess stock, and from the picture looks in good condition. I'm sure a plan can be made to purchase and courier it too you.
I'll happily speak to our local dealer and ask if they can get a new one's price for you if you want?

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for replying so quickly, appreciate it!

Dutch dealer Aart Kok imported a handful of Xplorers over the years (I believe about 7 in total). The last batch of 2 were imported in 2010 so ours in one of the two newest ones on the road here.

I would like to make use of your kind offer to see if your local dealer can provide a new cover and ship to The Netherlands.
I do prefer a new one as we plan to keep our Xplorer well beyond retirement age!

In parallel, I can contact Walter Richter in Kimberley and find out more on the cover that he has for sale - just in case your local dealer cannot get a new one?

No problem Max, I'll ask my dealer (Kempton Caravans) - for a price tomorrow, and let you know. I can facilitate and ship to you - let me just get a price first (and availability)

New 60l water tank fitted in the nose compartment and moved the gas bottles. I've also fitted a new water pump and replaced the suspect wiring. The system works well with all the mods. Click image for larger version.

Bracket fitted to the side of the van and trimmed the upright pole to match the modified awning. It's was the first time I was able to get the the van out of the carport and get the awning up since it's repair and modification. With the pitch in the roof sheet hopefully it won't collect rain water anymore. Click image for larger version.

    Ah that is like mine!

I have water damming up at the ends of the tent in the middle (at each side).

I find I have to put tie ropes in at the little loops and peg them to the ground to make the tent more tight (taut). That one.

    Cheers

Just had an upgraded Panel installed, with fuse boxes, new Solar Controller and charge system - all done through PBE

(Please excuse the low quality pics, I'll take better pics when the van is back from Bearing replacement)

Can you not just let down the tyres? Then pump them up again. 5 or so meters slowly on flat tyres would not damage them?

Not enough clearance by letting the tyres down.

With the storage rims it just clears the doors.

The rims are smaller than the van's standard rims just to give you an idea.
