    Default OWL id

I don't have a photo or proper description but...
Saturday evening just after sunset the dogs went crazy, went out to have a look and a large owl was sitting on the roof, did not get a good look as it was high up(double story) and dark.

It was about 500mm high if not more, strong short curved beak it seemed, could see the curled feathers where the ears are clearly - looked like small horns, and the eyes were big and there seemed to be light and dark circles on the face around the eye area.
    This was in Highveld, Centurion.
Any ideas on the type of owls that hang around this part of Gauteng?
Would owls take nest in an owl box in build-up areas like this?

Most likely a Spotted Eagle-owl. Quite common in suburbia
