I assume (which I should not) that you will again look towards a ten year ownership period having to maintain the vehicle out of maintenance plan. If I were you my first choice, given those criteria, would be Toyota followed by the Pajero.

Nothing can beat Experience !, Hence seeking Guidance from Forum Members. I have been driving a Audi Allroad 2.7T Quattro variable suspension for 10 years- fantastic vehicle if you care for it. (Even towed a Mitsu SWB out of mud slide !).
But time moves on and we want to take on more Permanent 4X4 Adventures, Northern Cape, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia etc.
How do I choose a vehicle, at this point Diesel seems the preference ( Which ones have to have 50ppm)= yes =X.
Value for money, service/maintenance Costs, Parts Availability are Key Features.
Choice up to 2 years old, Auto: Mitsub Pajero 3.2 GLS ; Toy Prado , Land Rov. Discovery , Jeep Cherokee Ltd. The Latter 2 seem a tad expensive.
There seems to be a pricing cartel among the Dealers on these vehicles, based on rumours as to what they will Trade in or buy for.
The next discussion will be minimum mods to make.

Youth is such a wonderful thing - what a pity it is being wasted on the young.
Very old advice (don't know where the Paj fits into this formula).

As jy wil sag ry, kry 'n Isuzu.
As jy wil vêr ry, kry 'n Toyota."

Given you were happy with the a6 all-road, why not the similar A4? Unless missed the point that you want to start doing proper (?) 4x4 now.
Hi, Thanks for the quick responses.
Why not A4 Quattro- it has fixed suspension and to small the Allroad variable suspension goes from 142 mm to 210 mm. Now I need to get greater off-road capability and for our Potholes
Probably 5 year Ownership target.
If you are used to variable suspension(air?)the Discovery is a must to at least try.EAS brings a new dimension to off road travel.
Happy hunting,
