So learned a few things today. The 777 has 3 diffrent electrical systems. The probability of a cockpit fire taking out all 3 before someone could make a distress call is highly unlikely. The pilots (almost all) at our National Carrier believes this includes a pilots involvement. Capt Chaos can correct me here if wrong but I was told not even the boy pilots knows how to change the flight plan on the FMS.

I wonder if lightning will be able to take out the electrical system

Wasn't it lightning that took out that brand new Kenyan airliner a few years back?

Not looking good. Maybe in 50 years whoever's files will be declassified and we will all know what really happened.

nah its not a conspiracy IMHO

its an indication of negligence by both the airline companies and the manufacturers who, despite several examples and or threats of pilot suicide, demented pilots, hi-jacking, demented passengers etc. has failed to implement a safeguard against this.

Haixun 01 reporting a signal was detected, needs confirmation that it isn't other equipment in the same frequency.

    From http://stream.wsj.com/story/malaysia...8/SS-2-501748/ an hour ago.

The battery won't last much longer. Really hope that this is the correct site for the families involved:

PERTH, Australia—Chinese and Australian vessels have separately detected unidentified pulse signals in the southern Indian Ocean while searching for signs of missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, Australian authorities said Sunday. A Chinese vessel equipped with a so-called black-box detector picked up a signal Saturday within two kilometres of an initial ping detected a day earlier.

It would be nice for some closure for those people, a few sites I have read speculate that while the black box is certified to last for 30 days, realistically it might last somewhat longer- but it allegedly missed battery replacements in 2012 so who knows. There is also concern about the signal originating from another source, such as research bouys like those in the RAMA project, which supposedly has a bouy in the area.

so the satellite pings were incorrectly calculated and the position has now moved further north east than any previous search, and immediately 2 ships pick up pings, yet the media is focused on how the Chinese vessel doesn't have the technology to have picked anything up.

the elephant in the room, not addressed by western media, is how did the Australian military radar not pick up an unidentified aircraft only 1500km from its shore, and how did the British miscalculate the satellite pings (although they did admit it was a whole new ballgame when they did it the first time.)

anyway i'm hoping this is actually it so the families can move on
