    Default Snot en trane!

Those that know me & my bike will remember that since the day I got it,, there has been a recurring yet elusive overheating issue.

I bought it second hand, it is a 2007 model and had 52k km on it.

It overheated the day i took delivery, took it back and they had it for a few days and said there was an airlock and all was now good and so it seemed, a few months later and it overheated in a shopping centre carpark out of the blue.

By now I had moved the maintenace of the bike away from the dealer I bought it from to a Triumph dealer so in it went where a dirty radiator cap was doagnosed and again it all seemed good for a few more months, then on out New year trip it overheated on the beach road in park Rynie while doing a slow scenic ride, this was the worst on as the bike cut out as well.

So back in it went when we got home and this time the radiator cap was replace...... and all seemed good until a friday night a few weeks ago, after a short run to the Fireman's Tavern in Modderfontein and back afterwards, it overheated in the 3km from the hiway to our house...

So in it went again, and this time some harsh words were said and questions asked of service levels.

The end result is that an experienced senior mechanic was put to the task and started looking at EVERYTHING, he reckoned it was a minor leak in the head gasket amongst possible other causes and because I had taken a extra warranty on the bike at purchase I told them to investigate fully.

Ja well no fine, it's definately the little leak on the head gasket but the problem has been there for some time, the first thing that was found was that there was no thermostat in the bike, the next thing was that there is a LOT of heat damage and it looks old so the real possibility is that the original owner had this elusive problem and at some point the thermostat was removed during testing etc and ultimately it could not be diagnosed and he sold the bike to get rid of the problem.

So we are currently at R18k for the top end overhaul which includes a piston kit and a head redo as it's the gasket, the rings are shot, there is some damage to the pistons and the valve seals are shot.
