Default Camera equipment - Trusted shops

So its not a new thing but people are still being scammed out of their hard earned monies from online shops for Camera equipment.

They are all over and you can be caught out easily if not informed.

This is whats nice about the forum, we have members all over that can be of help and go look at the equipment before you make payment, should you be buying second hand equipment.

Here are a list of shops we(Me and Swambo) have done online business with and will recommend them to any new member who asks about starting to gather equipment for their new found hobby

    Shops:
    ORMS - http://www.ormsdirect.co.za/
    ODP - http://www.outdoorphoto.co.za/
    Arrow Photo - http://www.arrowphoto.co.za/
    Graham Robertson - http://www.grphotographic.co.za/
    Studio22 - http://www.studio22online.co.za/
    Camera Stuff - http://www.camerastuff.co.za/shop/?ref=1
    Cameraland - http://www.cameraland.co.za/

    #7 Mycamera - http://mycamera.co.za/

If you have brought something from a online shop and they are a trusted source please share the link.

Here is another nifty link showing visual Size comparison for Cameras, nice if your planning on buying a bag and would like to know if it will fit

    http://camerasize.com/

eg: which one is the biggest, the Canon 1Dx or the Nikon D4
    http://camerasize.com/compare/#152,243
    Canon EOS-1D X is 2% (3.6 mm) wider and 1% (1.5 mm) taller than Nikon D4.
    Canon EOS-1D X is 9% (7.8 mm) thinner than Nikon D4.
    Canon EOS-1D X [1210 g] weights 10% (130 grams) less than Nikon D4 [1340 g] (*inc. batteries and memory card).

Canon EOS-1D X dimensions: 163.6x158x82.7 mm (camera body only, excluding protrusion)
Nikon D4 dimensions: 160x156.5x90.5 mm (camera body only, excluding protrusion) - See more at: http://camerasize.com/compare/#152,243

    Can also recommend:
    - ORMS-Direct
    - Outdoorphoto

DPReview is VERY handy, yet something gets lost when looking at only the specs. START there, then a physical comparison to SEE/FEEL what works for you.

for instance - had the opportunity to play with a 1DX last week ... obviously spec wise it is the best thing out there at the moment .... but MAN, that thing is BIG, and HEAVY. MARKEDLY more so than the 1D4 !!

I have bought from Orms, SA camera, Cameraland and find all are above board.
At My Camera i returned 3 cameras after some issues all within a month and they took them all back no questions asked, untill i got what i wanted, so definitely my camera.
DPreview i find very useful and am a poster there

Just a note that SA Camera is no more, MIH pulled the plug on them last week. Other than the now defunct SACamera, my two favs are Orms and MyCamera.

A good online shop is Camera warehouse.

The owner recently relocated from PE and has opened his retail store down the passage from my coffee shop.

The owner's name is Colin McKenzie and he is really good with both online and walk in clients. I highly recommend him.

Got my camera and lens from Kameraz in Rosebank, good service but the prices are a bit high to my liking.

I would always suggest ORMS as they have never given me anything but excellent service and the best possible prices....

Is it normal for prices in south africa to be 50% higher than in the UK (UK prices are already higher than everywhere else)?

If anyone knows where I can get the Nikon 70-200mm f/4 for about 15000 rand I'd be very grateful. I can't find stock here.
