On Thursday I went to DeWildt. Very nice trail with lots of challenging obstacles for a softroader. All have bypass routes as well.

Braai area and toilets are well kept and clean.

Again I was reminded why a softroader is still way more fun on these kinds of trails. You have to carefully choose your line, use the right amount of power, you get all the action of wheels lifting off the ground, etc

A Wrangler, for example, was there...he just idled through the obstacles...including Gert se Klip...no fun at all on these kinds of trails

Would a softroader be able to enjoy the Atlantis dunes or is that just a no go, I'm talking about a Sportage AWD CRD.

Foresters and freelanders seem to enjoy them selves.
I am not familiar with the sportage but give it a go and let us know.

I am able to lock 4WD and switch off ESP / ESC, but I did try it in AWD. It was a lot of fun feeling it hunt for traction. It sort of squirmed around, but made it up most of the worst. One can always back down and choose less of an incline, but I would recommend going with a buddy that has a tow rope...and knows how to get out again. GPS doesn't help much and there are no trails, but part of the fun really.

Is it the kind of thing where you don't really want anyone in the car or would there be places easy enough to take the kids with.
Ya look next thing I'm asking for if I do decide to go is who on this forum can I have on speed dial.
Lessons learnt, ended up going where I shouldn't have in sand baai and luckily made it out unskathed, not gonna be doing stuff like that alone again

Riding on a trail can be hard on PSX, but in the dunes you kind of swish around, if that makes sense. Lots of families go. I saw one guy towing his teenage boys on body boards. It must have been something like being towed behind a boat. Looked like fun. Under correction, but I think you can braai there as well.

    Hi Guys,

Just want to report back on a recent road trip via the Mokala (Kimberley) & Mountain Zebra (Cradock) National Parks. Managed to squeeze in 3 very enjoyable 4x4 routes.
    • Mellifera and Merakeng 4x4 Trails (Mokala) are both "new" trails - Level 1, very easy, sand, 3.5km each.
    • Sonnenrust 4x4 Trail (Mountain Zebra) - Level 2 IMHO, rocky at places, 14.2km.

Give them a go when in the area.

Did De Wildt in a stock Terios. Was my first trail with Terios. Also didn't know what the car will do etc etc...
I would say I did about 95% of the trail, did not do the first axle twisters up the mountain (took by pass on the left). And Gert se klip. Just drove up about 3M for a funny pic...

Did Groenkloof in a lifted Terios.
Will also say I did about 95% of the trail, except for the last mud pit/hole thingy, and the mountain section after the last mud/pit hole...
