    Default My Triton-Bashplate project

I played around with SketchUp and the idea for my own bashplate design.
I got the original design/layout from NewTriton.net as a PDF.

Made a few changes and ended up with this...

Looks nice, but where is the cut-out section to access your sump?

The back plate is secured with only 4 bolts, not that much work every 10 000km...

    Hi Sky
I like the look of your bash plate.
I especially like the idea of it being in 2 parts. I would perhaps leave away the Mitsu sign and centre the triton or put the sign first and then triton.(reading mitsubishi triton)
    But that's just me.
    Any chance of sharing dimensions/PDF's?

    Looks very nice, Well Done.
Just be careful, I have a Lynx bashplate and bought it because I liked the design and it got some reputable endorsements. After a year of use I can confirm it is way better than I expected.
One key design feature is an angle iron cross piece under the radiator to prevent the bash plate from bending under the radiator if it took an impact.
You have a lot of cut outs in the area of the radiator so I would seriously consider some bracing under the radiator.

My main caution is however that the the place where the 2 plates are joining has a very weak attachment point on the chassis cross member. My bash plate has taken only a few moderate knocks and already one of those brackets that the bolts screw into have broken off. If it were not a 1pc bash plate it would have rattled around and another hit would make bending the plate a lot easier. With the 1pc the bash plate is still supported by the cross member if it takes an impact so the strength is in no way compromised.

I like your design and it looks super smart but I would personally put a support under the radiator and have stronger mounting points fitted on the cross member at the joint!!

I am keen doing a bashplate for my new 2014 triton. I really like the one you have done.

Is there any chance that you wouldn't mind sharing the info on the bash plate.

    Would really appreciate it.

    Thanks
