Question Armed Responce - Other options/companies?

    Hi,

My home alarm is connected to an Armed Responce Company.
Now years back when the system was installed, they offered a great rate for paying for the full year upfront. Basically you got 1 month free.

Problem is I'm making the sums now, yes, I know , and it is working out to around R450/month for the full 12 months, no free month anymore.

Is this a market related price, or am I getting ripped off?

What is the options if you do not have armed responce?
Perhaps get my own cell modem to alert me?

    Thanks

not 100% sure what the unit is called, but there are items you can install into your system that can sms your phone if the alarm goes off.

I think that fee is market related, currently paying close to R800 for our armed response but the guys are excellent, they always at the house in close to 3 minutes if the alarm goes off.

Find out what your security company is charging new clients they sign up. Chances are it will be less than what old clients are paying after a few (or many) annual increases.

Insist you get the same rate if you're happy with them, or cancel and move to another if not. You shouldn't have to install a new alarm system if you move.

Usually the radio transmitter belongs to the response company and if you change companies, they remove this part. The new company then installs a new radio transmitter.

The installed alarm system remains yours.

I am paying about same as you (R460pm), but they excellent and worth it.

    G-switch from Centurion Systems

Switch twodifferent electrical devices on or off, monitor them and send you SMS status alerts
Communicate with up to 300 users
Activate devices via dropped call (free of charge) or SMS
    Remain secure with password

So it can notify you if your alarm is triggered then you can reset the alarm from your cell phone

THEN to play a little more you get cameras at your house that you can view on your smart phone when you are not at home

Thats a bit rough. I've paid Roman R230/pm and now Capital also. I know SJC is the most expensive around R340-ish. They've got a couple of cars in my area (Sonkring), frequently sitting in the park across our house, so its almost like extra coverage for free. Their guys wouldn't want to miss out on action

We pay R 350 p m at the business premises. We choose the copany after the distance and the time they need to respond. Not by the price there are cheaper ones around at R 250.

At home we are right now testing the digitech gsm system from builders. I know 2 guys that are very happy with it.

Looks like I am being ripped a new one. Good thread, I will be calling the other armed response in the area on Monday. ADT R550

I recall when we moved here ADT was the only response group that covered the area.

Hi, i happen to work for one of the national security companies in that area. Should your service be at the company i work with, i would then be able to arrange for a reduced rate. Pm me should you need further information.

I pay R295pm for Armed Response, which I think is very reasonable. I've only been with them for the past year, so I'm basically a new customer.
Just be careful and check your insurance before cancelling the armed response portion of your cover. My insurance specifies that I require armed response or I will not have theft cover.
Just check your policy first before being sorry later.

Yes I was considering this as well because ADT is charging me the same. Let me know please Steven. I think we have a manitence contract so if anything goes wrong with our systems they fix it for free?

Go for a smaller company that is active in your area, AD* is quite useless & only good at collecting monthly installments, they are too big to worry about individuals or provide personal service. Got rid of them & now pay about R330 - get instant sms with detail on which specific area triggered the alarm or panic or power failure, you can view all your cameras from any location if you have adsl; armed response is backed by "Dog's & all" (X-police guys that don't take no prisoners). I do not mind paying for the best service, even if they were more expensive. Suggest to do some homework & get reference from people in your area that can vouch for good service of local armed response companies.

I have actually got no issues with ADTs service. We have had quite a few call outs. I recall our rate was higher as they have a car dedicated to our suburb... the only people at the time. But District Watch are now active as well as Zonewatch (IIRC). They have a home escort where they will accompany you into your house to make sure everything is OK. Not that SWAMBO has ever used it. No maintenance contract.

I think you are being ripped off,R320 is about what you should pay. ADT is useless, i am with Vetus schola which means old school, they are briliant all ex policemen. We pay R392 with helderberg watch and EMS ambulance included for a 30km raduis of our house.Biggles next time you see an ADT agent ask them to see the people in your erea's firearm training schedule, you would be shocked to see how little firearm training they get.

ADT is useless, alarm went off 3 times, ADT said false alarm. Sister got home from school to find house ran sacked. Neighbour saw 6 big guys leaving...ADT said sorry we never actually entered as we thought there were dogs. Imagine she came home sooner...

Additionally at one of my shops, they were in parking lot and did nothing when shop was burgled as shop with another company...this in the wee hours

Those buggers, I am paying R385 and their response time is between 4-10 min which sucks.

If a thieve would want to steel they do it in less than 3 min which is always late for the response company. I guese we are paying for a very poor service.

I got rid of ADT long ago. They are totally useless and overpriced. They even wanted to charge me extra for using a radio connection. Telephone line was for free.

Well, in my case, when I came on board I told them about the animals, they were here, but now, when they respond, they wont enter my premises, but stand out front....

Ive adressed this numerous times, and everytime they assure me, its been sorted, but yet whenever they have to respond, they cant inspect my backyard..... And their response time is shocking.... Ive once recorded them at 25 minutes.....

Also paying R440 now, but going over to another company thats half that, and based here in Northerns...
