Default Kitchen & Bathroom Renovation Cost

    Hi,

I would like to renovate my kitchen and family bathroom, and before even going through the trouble of getting guys in for quotes etc, would like to know if I can even afford it.

The kitchen and bathroom finishes date back to when the house was built in 1986 so things need to change!

    The kitchen measures 3350 X 2900 and the bathroom 2900 X 1750.

Is it possible to buy descent quality finishes and workmanship for these two rooms at R60k?

I'm not interested in high end or budget, just want a descent midrange solution, anybody able to tell me whether this is possible or not?

If not I'd rather not renovate than pay for rubbish.

Any recommendations for companies/artisans in the northern suburbs, western cape that do bathroom/kitchen renovations?

    Thanks

    I think 60k is a hell of a lot.
Tiling/baths/basins etc should not be more than 20k.Thats 40k for kitchen cupboards, and for that size kitchen its a lot.maybe 20k for cupboards. My estimate

Im retiling my bathroom now and with all the new fittings R20k should be more than sufficient.

Kitchen cuboards are about R20-R30k if you just do normal stuff.

    I think youl be fine.

I'm a plumber by trade and get this question regularly.

My standard answer is: If you don't have R30k per bathroom, do not attempt!

If there are any galvanised pipes in the walls, rip it out and have it replaced by copper tube - the galvanised pipes WILL start leaking about 2 weeks after the last tiles have been laid...

Ok Great that's a relief! Weizter kitchens proclaim on their website that they sell budget kitchens from R50k!? which started to worry me that my dreams were unobtainable! R50k for a budget kitchen? Bietjie belaglik!

Damit! But thank you for the advice! I imagine you would advise the same for the kitchen pipes?

I would think 60k might cover your kitchen including new stove, zinks, etc. Depending of course on what type of tops you put in.

Bathroom , I think 25k to 30k (Washbasin, bath, shower and taps for all, tiles, towel rails). Depending of course on ho high you want to tile. Tiling the walls in the bathroom should allready be in the 5k mark.

Smart, I like it. It has the exact same layout as our bathroom. Double shower is a must.
