    Default Corner protector's

A Couple of week ago I was at the carwash with the landy. A guy with a landy was looking at the corner protectors I put on and asked me where I bought them. I told him I made them myself.

He asked me how much I will ask him to make him a set. I gave him a price and he asked me to make him a set.

I phoned him 3 weeks later and told him the parts is done. He told me he is on holiday and will phone me when he is back.

I ran into him a couple of days later. I politely greeted him and asked him when he wants to pick up the parts.

He then told me it is pieces of crap and he is not interested and I can keep them.

If anybody is interested in a set please PM me.

    They do come in handy

I have a NAS rear bumper which means none out there fit, Brian or Disco Smiley, would either of you consider building me a pair? I'll pay a deposit...

    Reviving an old thread.

As usual I steel with my Mk1 eyeball.
I looked at all the various designs out there and decided on a pipe version.

It's slow going as I'm dependent on a friend's expertise welding and cutting skills.
I can do it myself but his will look so much better.
I'm doing measurements, filing, drilling and painting.

First picture is of my inspiration.
Second and third picture is first mockup.
Mine won't have the extreme bracing below the pipe as in the first picture.
Currently I'm considering a lighter brace.

Looks nice. Have them powder coated when done. That is hard wearing and last longer.

Most of the pieces are completed but not welded together.

Now it's time for cosmetics and fine-tuning to make it look good.

    Hi jfh, looks good!

Were the corners a perfect 90 degrees? Mine weren't thank goodness the Stone Acc steps were adjustable to cater for this.

Haven't measured it, frankly I didn't think of it.

But the supports for the pipe will be fine tuned for this.
At the moment it looks like I have to remove a mm from the inner support to make everything look square.

Defenders are built with rubber rulers, so you have to adapt to it.
My rear cross member sits almost a cm recessed from the bodywork.

I am a bit worried about the strength of the mounting. If you slide and it gets force from side your mounting might bend. On the ones I made I added gussets on the inside to help with strength in case of sideways force. They do look good though. I think you did a excellent job.

Ja well. My main idea was protection against fender benders.

The 5mm supports hopefully will help for most bumps.

Mine saved my bum on the weekend, took a nasty bump which would have definitely buckled the rear quarter. Click image for larger version.
