    Default Kitesurfing - Choices, choices...

Right, I've had it with the wind in Blouberg. It has been blowing non-stop for what feels like weeks now. Time to do something about it.

    I want to start kitesurfing.

Problem is, there are about 100 different kitesurfing schools in the area.

Can anyone recommend a good place where I can quickly learn the ropes?

    Is there a Kitesports branch?

(also, don't try and go too quickly, it can hurt!)

Yeah, I see there is one at Big Bay. I'll swing by some time to check it out.

My ego is actually more manageable these days, so I should be OK...

Coincidence... Did some lessons this weekend at Cape Sport Center... Langebaan.
They are by far the cheaper ones... And it was a great experience. Can really recommend them.

This is also a good option:
Beginner Course (getting you on the board) R3570.00 (Pay in advance and receive a 10% DISCOUNT R3200.00)

    Intensive training
Small personalized group: 2 students per instructor
2 days of lessons in Cape Town 4hrs per day
1 day in Langebaan including transport.

    from http://cabrinha.co.za/school/

We paid more than that for the 2 of us (SWAMBO & I)
    Ours Cost:
    Lesson 1 R800
    Lesson 2 R800
    Lesson 3 R1050

    per person.

4 hours in one shot is very long, specially when starting out.
I would recommend going 2hours at a time rather.

Thanks Papsak. I'll have a look. My plans have since moved onto the back burner, as swambo told me in no uncertain terms that our swimming pool needs a makeover and it needs it NOW. She's right, though. Volgende maand.

I did my lessons through constantly kiting a couple of years ago.

if you wanna progress fast then go for the 3 day course, else just do the 1 day and do the rest yourself but then the learning curve is extremely difficult and frustrating, unless you're a sporting fundi who is good at everything. I speak from experience, took me for ever in the waves at karmers.

Also make sure its something you really want to do before you go out and buy the kit. if you really wanted to do it no swimming pool or SWAMBO will stand in your way . I have a list of friends all sitting with expensive equipment but no interest in the sport.

There is truth in what you say here. I know plenty of guys with kit who never go out anymore.

Tell them we'll assist in making more space in their cupboards!
