I finally got the Shurflo pump for the XT140. Now I can relocate the gravity fed tap!

    Default New to the forum

I recently joined the forum, this is my first post . Used to browse around here as a guest.

I bought an XT140 with extension in September 2014 and took it camping in October for the first time (Pilanesburg). Second trip was over December to Loskopdam, where I camped into JacoK. What a small world.

It was a tough decision for me what to buy, but eventually settled on the XT as it is good value for the money, and since this is my first offroad trailer, I did not want to over invest.

So far very happy with my acquisition. It tows like a dream, and offers enough flexibility for packing.

I have done some mods already and will post a few pics soon. To date I have:

    1. Fitted a HCDP mk4 panel
    2. Fitted LED lights inside the trailer
    3. Mounted NL on base plate
    4. Fitted a very nice canvas storage bag to the front wall (inside) for odds and ends
    5. Fitted plugs for 220V and 12V (Hella)
    6. Added a Hella plug for solar input
    7. Added the rear slides (standard Jurgens issue)
    [/LIST]

I am constructing a table/washing station at the moment that fits around the wheel arch on the "kitchen side" using connect-it blocks, and have some ideas for kitchen storage. Also planning to fit a pump so I can move the gravity fed tap to a more convenient location.

Based on the experience gained from the two trips, I'd say the rear slides may require a bit of reconsideration and a more convenient kitchen setup would have been great. The ammo boxes are just too much of a nuisance

I currently use the lower slide for 4 ammo boxes, and have fitted a floor to the top slide, where I store tables, chairs, etc. The height restriction of the back tailgate means that you lose quite a bit of storage on top if you want to pull the slide out.

I am thinking about removing the top slide and fitting a fixed shelf. That way I can still use the 4 ammo boxes at the bottom, but better utilise the storage space on top. Any ideas and suggestions welcome

BTW, underneath the lower slide there is about 80mm of wasted space as well. This space happens to fit two 70W Tenesol solar panels perfectly. Over December we had a non-powered site at Loskop, and this was a perfect opportunity for me to test out the solar setup for future adventures. Two solar panels joined with hinges to close take up 60mm of space and lies snugly on a piece of carpet fitted to the trailer floor, between the frame of the slides, safely out of harms way.

Now for dreaming up some creative ideas for a more convenient kitchen setup...

    Wern

    Welcome Wern!
You got yourself a very nice trailer - well built and tow like a dream. You will enjoy the HcdP Mk4 panel that works like a charm with a lot of facilities condensed in one unit.
Regarding the rear slides for ammo boxes - yes these boxes do become a pain espescially when one has not yet organised it pretty well. To pack and unpack and every time opening the rear frame with the spare wheel is somewhat of a bother.
You are right there is a lot of space waisted above and on each side of the rear slides but with your top extension you should have enough overall space?
I used the space beneath the slides for all sorts of things. (tools, braai grid, braai tang, jumper cables, spares etc.)

Any way, I hope you enjoy the XT 140 - there is a lot of information on these trailers on the forum.

    Happy camping!

    Default Thank you

Thank you Carel Kriek and JacoK for the hospitality. I have also been pleasantly surprised by the number of XT trailers going around. I noticed a separate thread where some mods are discussed. I will switch to that for future posts on mods. Would be nice to see more contributions to XT mods, I am sure there must be lots of creative ideas out there.

    Hi Guys

I also have a XT140 and the kitchen is the one thing that bothers me & SWAMBO the most. I have done some web crawling and this came up. http://wildebeestgear.co.za/
I got the dimensions from them and it would fit on the fridge slide. The slide just needs to be lowered by 5mm. The unit is a bit expensive, but contains about everything you need.

I don't know if it will be cheaper to fabricate it yourself as I have two left hands and would not even try.

As julle julle trailers stoor hoe maak julle,
