Default False bay camping. Lister point

    HI guys.
I went up to false bay this weekend with steamer.
All I can say is this.
If we don't use this place we are going to loose it like Fanies island and charters creek.
It was amazing, affordable and truly spectacular.
The fishing, the camping, the ablutions, the staff and the whole weekend,, AMAZING.

    NOW GO

False Bay Park is a special place tucked away on the Western shores of the st Lucia Lake complex, with fascinating marine and coral fossils found scattered throughout the area. The unique diversity facilitates excellent bird watching and game viewing opportunities.

Two self-guided walking trails have been established to allow visitors to enjoy the full benefit of the area. High concentrations of crocodiles in the lake prevent swimming, however boating and fishing are very popular and a viewing platform on the lake side near the camp commands magnificent views of the Greater St Lucia wetland park, especially at sunset. The beautifully situated south facing campsites, commanding magnificent views across False Bay to Hell's Gate, accommodate both caravans and tents.

Most campsites are electrified with plug points. The north facing campsites provide easy access for caravans and are not electrified. All campsites feature shared coldwater taps and barbecue facilities. Ablution facilities provide hot and cold running water, flush toilets, showers and dishwashing basins but no laundry facilities. Lister Point also provides a shop for the convenience of guests.

Nearby Dugandlovu camp provides rustic chalet accommodation for guests.

You are bringing back fond memories now. My dad and I used to go fish for Cob there in winter. We spent the night on the boat and slept during the day.Good times.
I'm just sorry he's too old for that now.

By the way those are some nice grunters there.

I was at school in Hluhluwe. So yes, we were at false bay, a lot.

There was a pelican there by the name of Percy. He had a bum leg, that got nicked by a boat prop and the game wardens nursed him back to health. But there was always a limp.

    Percy was a real character.
You could get into the bait shack to buy shrimp, no problem, but Percy would be wayting at the door to collect his toll fees.
He would land on the guys boats and steel their catch.
Would beg for food when you were camping.

He was a bit of a pest, but everybody loved him. He lived to the ripe old age of about 18yrs.

Howzit Mudzilla, thanks for this post and congrats on the catches. How dangerous is the place pertaining to Crocs. are they close to the fishing grounds that you were at. I love my fishing too and would prefer to cast a bait rather than be bait did you catch those Grunter from a boat or from the waters edge?

I got them off a boat. The fishing off the side is safe and also pretty good. Go for it and enjoy

    Hi there
I read your experience that you had by camping at False Bay. I want to book there for July 2016. Can you help me with contact details of making a reservation for caravan camping. Is it safe to camp there. I was there a few years back driving through the place and enjoyed it very much. A J Visser. E mail: [email protected]

    Hi all

I just got back from the estuary 3 days ago, i would not plan anything around there for a few years to come, or unless we get some floods.
The estuary is DRY, no water, dead fish on sand, DRY. look at another option if you can

Has there been any improvement in the fishing since then?

I just spoke to my son whom stays virtually next to False Bay. He says fish are returning but not plentifull yet. They did get a1,7kg grunter the off the side the other day. He said the small hand size telapia was plentifull. 3 kids fishing of Lister point cought more than 90 fish in 2 hours. If you have a boat and you go through hells gate the fish is more plentifull.
    Hope that helps.
