Lightbulb Re: Metalian Maxi super thread

At last got Maxi tail lights changed from regular globes to LEDs. Now we can really "glow in the dark".

    Method:
    Labelled everything. Twice.
Then removed the globes from existing cluster and mounted them inside a short piece of 40mm PVC pipe.
Piece of bicycle tyre (left over from covering locks) was used to hold bulb holder in place.
Did test to check temperature and globes only got to around 40 C (lights on always when we tow).
I had to extend wires to reach the Wago connectors.
Fitted LED lights and wired my PVC-globe adapter in parallel.
Hid lights so I could access from kitchen or rear bedroom cupboard (getting LEDs out of rubber seal is a pain, especially in the rain if one of the globes blows!)
Hooked up car and they all worked 100% first time. Swambo was impressed. Me too.

I have a slightly easier solution that entails a couple of resistors and diodes that get added to the wiring in the plug. The resistors are 1,5K with a blocking diode (1N4007 or any gp rectifier diode) before or after it just to stop current from the other points bleeding over to all the lights. Thewhole shebang is soldered together and put in pin 3 and then each combination resistor/diode is shrink wrapped and linked to the different lights. Please note the squiggle in each of the lines is a resistor and a diode.

This is what the expensive adapters have inside but should cost less than R 20 so all the folks who save thousands I like good single malt scotch

    Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh
    NOW YOU TELL ME.

    Just joking....
I already had the globes and their holders etc and decided to use them. Read somewhere that those resisters gets very hot... but when the next person complains about LEDs problems I am going to come fetch a unit from you and sell it to them. I'll give you..... say... 20% of the sale price.

If brand new, enjoy the trip.

If second hand I would do a shake-down trip much closer to home before going to the coast... just to iron out any little wrinkles that a previous owner may not have remembered to tell you about.

Enjoy. I'm sure you will loads of fun with your new toy. It makes your camping so much more comfortable.

Awesome and Congrats! I remember the day like it was yesterday - the end of the looooong wait spent studying photo's of everybody else's Maxi's in nauseating detail. I have no doubt you'll have many incredible memories of your own! Enjoy! Eagerly awaiting your photies.

I have a water leak from outside the trailer. Somewhere the water is coming in
at my fridge door, damming up inside the door until full and then overflowing into
the compartment underneath the fridge. Even if it doesn't rain enough to overflow,
the carpeting and caddies still gets wet.

If I look in the right top corner of the door, only half of the rubber makes contact.
How do I adjust the door to make more contact and, if that doesn't work, how do I
    solve this problem?

Normally the trailer stands under cover when not in use and when in use it's covered by
the awning. I am more worried with rain whilst en route, getting to my camp and discovering
that everything in the door and under fridge compartment is soaked.

Remember, there are NEVER problems with Metalians... just opportunities for owners to learn new skills.

Heinz will tell you to do the R10 test like this "The first thing I do is to take a R10 note and close this in the door seal at three places each along the horizontal edges and two places on the vertical edges (e.g.for the kitchen door) or just two places each all round. When the door is closed, pull the note out. It can pinch tight, but mostly all you want is a bit of resistance in pulling this out. You’ll quickly feel what feels like there is no contact."

In your case with the leak near one of the locking paddles you can actually bend these to close sooner. If you bend them too much, when you close the door they just open to the correct setting automatically.
    Try that first.

And until 100% sorted, put an old towel under the fridge slide to stop water getting into the internal wheel well. (Swambo will be impressed with the temporary fix.)
Dam(n) door water I know is a pain with carpet and canvas. Maybe post a pic of your seals at top of door opening too.

Hi Jurgen, please email me a pic of the door taken from the inside. I'm guessing the hinge is on the left? If so, the paddle can be adjusted to close the door more. Have you done the R10 test in this corner?

Please email me on [email protected].
