Think so, the one without an axle as they will be fitting 2.5t 16" tyres to counter the potholes in Zambia. Saw the 1st pic's today. Heinz and his team s/be done early next week then its Jenny and Henks turn to complete the kitting job.

Yep axle was off it and they were busy fitting fridge slide in the front. It was the sight of the PU lining on your's that convinced me to also do it.In my case they will need to beef up the axle and springs to gain some height in order to fit the 33" x 10.5 x R15 tyres

So if all goes according to plan my new Maxi should be making its way up to JHB this week for the final kitting and mounting of my current HM TTT.

Vlakvarkie emailed me some photos of the trailer on Friday and I am very excited with what I have seen. Made one modification by adding a 2nd drawer at the back as there was plenty of space available to accommodate 2x drawers and 1x rear base board which will keep things neat and tidy but more importantly well secured in the trailer.

I will have to fly down to SA for a weekend to buy some of the camp kitchen stuff so that Jenny can make the pockets to the correct size.

Where do you store your 2nd gas bottle Henk ? Thinking of a bracket on the side of the Midi nosecone ?

Extremely glad I did the dual drawers at the back as it basically doubles my packing space yet allows me to still pack soft goods on top of the drawers.

Its all wrapped up and on the way to JHB. One item still outstanding and that is the rack/carrier that fits over the rear spare wheel. Should be ready end of this week or early next week and will then be couriered up to JHB for Henk to fit.

I got my tickets to fly down to SA for the weekend 15/16 June but did not realise that its a public holiday in SA and long weekend. Just hope Henk and Jenny will not be out somewhere in the bush........Henk come in please...you have email as well.

    Default Metalian Maxi or Mini

    Hi
I was about to order a Mini but the tent overlaping the front and back doesnt appeal to me. So I thought maybe I should get the Maxi and leave out nosecone and rear wheel bracket then the price is pretty close.
    What do you guys think
    Thanks
    Craig

A week ago I would have agreed with you and prompted you to go for the Maxi however..........I have a mini as well and we took the little Tyke out for a run this past weekend........WOW it is a brilliant little tourer. We had 4 nights in 3 different camps and the mini was just everything we could ask for.

So in a nutshell I would look at the reason for the trailer, as an overlander and a base to stay for longer periods the Maxi is without a doubt the best bet, you also have a greater range of tents readily available. If you want a tourer where you will be spending short stays in a lot of places, typical one or two nighters then the mini is your best bet.

A bit of good news is that we are busy developing a tent to fit on the 1500x1500 base of the mini and midi, the overhangs did not sit well with Jen either.

Nope our own trailer top tent with bedroom as per normal trailer tops. Mikes tent is a clamshell type that also hangs over the front and back just with solid base and top cover.

    Default mike's tent

    Hi Henk,
Remember us? We visited your stand at LAS expo in Pta.We were the Swakopmunders.I bought Heinz's demo at very short notice and fitted my1.2 RTT for the first trip but is now looking at clamshell type tent, or anything big enough without a downstairs room that is a one man setup operation.
Would like to contact you with our requirments for fitting out the kitchen.

So for 2 people, the Midi in the right configuration, could be the best of both worlds ? Or should we wait till a week after you have done a trip with a Midi, Henk ?

I doubt that I can justify buying another trailer The midi is just a mini with more height, this gives you the off road ability and better departure angle with the bigger option as far as tents go. The midi can accept any of the commercial tents out there .................as long as you are prepared for the overhang.
