Default My METALIAN MAXI modification thread (at last).

After a successful checking- and trying-out camping trip and lots of contemplating over lots of beers and wizzas and many hours in front of the PC, I have finally got around designing and doing my long awaited mods for my METALIAN MAXI.

Usually when it comes around doing designs for clients, the process is quick and simple with a clear "USER SPEC", but working with a customer like yourself and of cause SWAMBO, it becomes another kettle of fish, endless iterations of designs and going to bed with "what ifs" and "why nots" keeping you awake long after you were meant to sleep.

I ordered my MM as bare as I could with only the rear bottom slide with a plywood board, this will be carpeted and modified with a hinged trap door at the back to allow access to the battery compartment underneath with the slide locked in place. The battery compartment will be home to 2x 105 ahr deep cycle batteries as well as the water pump and valve system.

I opted for the Camp Cover TR7 TTT which I had modified by them to accomodate some of my own mods to be done later, I am allso doing some mods to the tent myself, more on that at a later stage.

I have designed lots of bits and pieces like a pull-out kitchen unit comprising of a gas stove, washing and drying area and a cutlery drawer , various storing drawers, a fitted kitchen/bar area on the kitchen side of the trailer and a bed extension turning the bed from a double bed to a king size bed so that you can sleep across the trailer. This helps that one does not have to climb over each other when getting into bed and the big bed allso helps with all the grand children in the bed when they are small (I know it happens....... try what you will).

The pics below shows the bed extension as on the PC, the first and second pic is without the mattresses in an extended and closed position with the last pic extended with mattresses in place. I will do the fitment of these over the coming weekend with pics to follow. I redesigned the tent frame hinge system as well to make it more sturdy and and incorporated it into the bed extension system. I allso did some mods on the tent frame.

    The rest to follow......

Well done, looks good. This sort of extension is exactly what I have in mind for my Mini. My reasons however differs a bit from yours as personally, I do not like the TTT to have overhangs when folded down for travelling.
The Mini's top is 1.5m x 1.5m. I would love to do what you have done here and maybe extend the bed to 1.5m x 1.9m.
Any suggestions how I can go about arranging for this to be done?

This thread has been very quiet, here is what we've been up to.

We made a new (massive yes!) flysheet to fit over the Camp Cover bedroom tent. We wanted to cool down the bedroom tent because it gets pretty hot under the PVC flysheet and also wanted to make it put up a better show in the rain.

At last the bedroom tents roof vents became efficient. The suspended flysheet resulted in a substantial drop in temperature, even in the midday heat.

That looks great...what are the chances of the same but for Howling Moon?

    Hi Johan,
LOL yes, it is big! We specifically made it for outdoor expos so that all our clients can do business in the shade.
The ones we make for clients are generally a bit smaller, unless you insist of course.

    Hi William,
I'm not all that familiar with the Howling Moon bedroom tent but there is always a plan to be made.
We did one to fit an Echo and it was very successful!
