    Gíday

Iím looking at buying a Maxi in the very near future.
Iíve been following this thread for quite some time now and Iím amazed by the ideas, suggestions and guidance that you share with each other.

    There are a few things that Iím concerned about and would appreciate any guidance on the below;

I drive a 2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 3.8 - has anyone had experience towing the Maxi with this? How does it handle the load?

I have a standard Mopar factory fitted tow bar which seems quite low which could result in the trailer nose being quite low. How do I raise the ball height without having to change the tow bar? Is it safe to use a drop plate upside down?

    TIA

    Regards,
    Pete

I tow a Maxi with platkar (for now) so also has nosedown attitude. What is the height of the top of your towball from ground?

Both my Grand Cherokee and my wife's Cherokee have Mopar gooseneck tow bars. Both tow maxi nose down. I haven't had any issues.

I've always wondered if it affects the braking system with the nose not being fairly level?

My GC towball height is 420mm. This pic is of my wife's Cherokee. Towball height roughly the same.Click image for larger version.

My towball height is 470mm and it drops about 15-20mm on coupling (Audi A4 platkar).
Plus I have bigger tyres 245/70R16 than stock standard (previous owner matched size to his Hilux).

Scuse my ignorance, but what problems would arise from towing nose down?

None. Jeep dream was just asking.
Just need to watch coupler mass more closely (regulations etc.)
IMO slightly nose down is good.

The grey is the pic is a metallic Corris grey (colour match to a Disco 4). Midnight grey is a hammer finish (no metallic) and probably halfway to black from the Corris grey, but viewed as is in the pic, it's fairly close, but still on the lighter side.

Also, is there a special trick to fill the tanks? As soon as the water leaves the hose at anything more than a trickle, water runs out of the input opening.
It could be that the diaphram valves need a clean, because they are not sealing 100%, so while trying to pump air which is highly elastic, it cannot pull the water up. As soon as the water reaches the diaphram (by being sucked up), it will appear to work 100%, but is possibly still only operating at 90% or whatever. To clean the valves is super simple. Just unscrew the 4 bolts on the top of the pump and lightly clean around the seal. You'll be amazed at how just a sliver of anything the size of hair stuck in the valve, sabotages the operation. If you don't have a strainer fitted in front of the pump, please fit one. This strainer is often referred to as a"pump protector" (not from a damage point of view, but operationally.)

Filling the earlier tanks required the water to pass to the second tank via a branch under the trailer, so this limited flow, but the first tank should fill fairly quickly. Points I would check for are:

    1. Is the breather in the second tank open?
    2. If the first tank is filling slowly, remove the cover over the inlet and check if the pipe did not maybe develop a kink.
    3. If you have the branch under the trailer, have you purged this recently? It is possible that the branch has a accumulation of sand from the tank that flushes into this branch. The drain should flush this out. We've had complaints in Australia (where we now fit two tanks each with their own inlet), that the breathers allow dirt to enter the tanks. I've seen photos sent to me which were quite astounding. On closer inspection of then water caps, the caps only close the main inlets and don't close the breathers. I suspect that the sloshing of the water creates a pump like action that sucks and blows, drawing whatever particles are in the air around the caps, into the tanks. I'll see if I can post the pics from whatsapp.
    4. The last place to check is if the joints were not partially closed during assembly by an overuse of silicone sealant. (Today we only have "dry" seals because we were unable to control the over application of sealants in the factory.)
