Met fun rider at Lower Sabie where he gave me the grand tour - thank you once again.

Great trailer and well thought out arrangement.

I like some weight on the towball. It makes towing a lot safer.

100% Rudu, I find that with 3 batteries (and an empty fridge) the nose is heavy. Relocating 2 batteries to the rear should alleviate this, but like you say - I'll have to remove the drawer and the slide and find a way to properly secure the batteries - I'm still unsure how to go about this.

To the guys with the batteries in the back, what do you use the space below the fridge for?

Depending on trip / duration I have used it for (1) bedding/pillows/sleeping bags, (2) Howling Moon side panels, (3) several bags of pine cones for home use , or (4) left empty.

I use the space for light things such as a foot mats, ground sheet, those rubber square mats with holes in them, plastic levelling block set, electrical bag with extension cords etc. Things that are large that you don't take in and out everyday.

If going away for a long time in the bush and need extra space, a case of beer or other food stuffs.

Ok so my deep cycle battery has packed up. It's a lead crystal 102ah.... got a quote for a discover at R4400 ish... can also get normal deep cycle for just over R1500 but it's lead acid and has vents... Will this be an issue in the trailer? I would think the vapour wouldn't be good...

    Any other ideas?

I use the space below the fridge for the heavy stuff, beer cooldrinks, potjie. Bread pot etc. Heavy stuff low as possible and in front of the axle for better stability.

Just seen some mixed batteries at OW. These appear to be sealed as well?

    Isn't "Sealed" = no venting?
Probably just use a good quality intelligent charger so it doesn't overcharge.

@Honey Badger Nope apparently still have a valve to vent if pressure exceeds a certain level..

I would guess a HCdP panel mk4 is a good quality intelligent charger?

If any venting of the battery does occur, the hydrogen, being lighter than air, will rise to the top. I would be very surprised if the trailer is so tightly sealed that the hydrogen cannot escape and be replaced by air.

Does anyone use a cover for their Metalian? If so where can I get one and is it a specific size?

I “cooked” my two batteries once before and the cause was the HCDP MK4 because a capacitor or something went, Manie fixed the HCDP for next to nothing but of course I had to buy two new deep cycle batteries.

Hopefully that doesn't happen! Just replaced my lead crystal with a SLA deep cycle direct from FNB. I can but 3 of these for the price of a LC battery.

    The LC lasted 4 years.
