I did mine with a brad Harrison plug on the panel and the mating plug on the nose cone but wired to a ctek 250s tho. I would recommend not a Hella plug for I see they rated to 5A whilst BH plug 20A I think.

    Hi all,
I'm a new owner based in London. I've only managed to use the trailer once in about 6 months of owner ship so it has been sitting on the drive covered with a tarp .. that turns out had broken down by UV (surprising I know!) and was leaking. As a result I've had some seals leak water into the trailer. Is the seals leaking a common thing and is there something that can be done to combat it?

    Ouch.
You'll want to get that dried out and the canvas bags removed from the backing carpet to allow it to fully dry out. Also check wherever your battery is (rear battery bay I would think) as that could have water in too.
Some on the forum in this thread have had leaks (me included, I had old seals) but manage to resolve them with combination of new seals, door adjustments, knocking the inner lip outwards a little or bending the stainless steel paddle (the part that contacts the door). But you have a new unit and new seals....!?

Reply below I had from Heinz got me sorted some time ago:
"1. The first think I do is to take a R10 note and close this in the door seal at three places each along the horizontal edges and two places on the vertical edges (for the kitchen door) or just two places each all round. When the door is closed, pull the note out. It can pinch tight, but mostly all you want is a bit of resistance in pulling this out. Youíll quickly feel what feels like there is no contact.
    2. If that is sorted, set up a smart phone and record the inside of the door where you suspect the water leak. Mostly we then find that the leak is coming from behind the seal. This happens when a seal has been removed and replaced and the feather on the insides is folded over. Water that sits on top of the seal above, starts running down and creeps in behind the seal. The leak then looks like it is coming from the bottom corner, but often also exits halfway up the seal on the inside.
    3. If youíre really struggling, Iíve used childrenís water paint around the seal and then just follow the watermarks"

Keep posting what you find and how you remedy this. Moving to lower rainfall - more sun region would help too.

That part is in the planning!

Thanks for the response and i'll everything a shot.

Once discovered everything was removed and dried out. Thankfully only mould grew on some of the things we had stored inside ... so not too much of a disaster.

It's leaning on a slight forward slope so all the water gathered towards the front so the batteries have stayed dry.

In the interim a new tarp will be covering it all up

Couple of pics attached to show what I found... bolts and some washers rusted from the leak. Previous owner did say he opened tanks at one time to clean some debris/glue. You can see lower cup (through the open port ) that protrudes below body of trailer to ensure tanks empty completely.

Quite scary how many small pieces of plastic and rust were inside tanks. That in-line mesh strainer I don't have is going in before I use tanks again.

Henk - you mention in a post to "open and reseal the tank's lid, clean the stainless with a bit of acetone to remove all traces of oil and don't be afraid of the sika it is your friend" - where would I put Sika? Do I get rid of the rubber seal and replace with Sika? Or do I use both? Is Sikaflex 552AT the one?

Heinz - I note the switch to Stainless Steel and better access port - saw the new ones at Ultimate Overland recently - nice. We checked our tanks for the water taste problem and traced it to a 1.5m PVC pipe the previous owner used to fill from underneath. Tossed the pipe, replaced with good old garden irrigation pipe (thanks for idea Henk) and did multiple tests and no more bad taste at all.

    Thanks for any help.
Can anyone explain how to remove the "lower cup" ? Do you remove the bolts from below the trailer or do your remove them from inside the tank? From the picture attached I cannot see. Not with the trailer now and trying to explain to someone how to do it.

Photos of removal would be great!!!

    Thanks

I removed mine sometime ago. Yes you need to unscrew from underneath the trailer and then remove the part in your pic from inside the tank.

I sealed with Sika and all good.

    Sorry no pics.

If I remember correctly, the fitting inside the tank has a threaded section that protrudes through the tank. From underneath there is a fitting that screws onto that thread and pulls everything together including the cover.

Has anyone considered fitting something like these with individual up/down controls to their maxi?

    https://www.amazon.com/Gabriel-49236.../dp/B001AMEENQ

I saw the levelling capability on the patriot trailers and thought these could achieve the same thing quite easily. being able to raise it up for water crossings would be another great use too. I haven't looked at the lengths etc yet to work out which model would be the correct one ... so just a passing thought for the moment.

Ismail, is the gravity tap to drain your tanks? If so, at the bottom of your Maxi (underneath the trailer) there are pipe fittings connecting the 2 tanks. Henk installed a tap there (on my previous trailer).

I installed a gravity tap by just connecting to the stainless steel piping underneath the water tanks. Pictures attached (a little dirty as my last trip was rather dusty). The tap attaches to the brass quick release connector. Click image for larger version.
