    Very nice... enjoy it.

How often should one have the trailer serviced and what exactly should be serviced?

Where in East London can I take my Maxi to be serviced??

    • Replaced the HM Classic TTT with an Echo Mk3 TTT with L-shaped and kitchen awnings
    • Replaced the black steel rims with older Hilux mag rims
    • Added door pockets for the doors which did not have caddies (thanks to SWAMBO)
    • Fitted rubber mats and linings for the drawers and storage spaces
    • Fitted some lashing points to the fridge and rear drawers
    • Replaced the Royal DC battery with a Delco 100Ah LC
We enjoyed our first camping trip (12 days in KNP) recently and must say the trailer performed very well. It is a stable tow, providing lots of packing space and everything is well laid out when camping. Future planned upgrades include:
    • Fitting a bar / bottle storage rack
    • Mud flaps
    • A frame and nose cone cover sheets for protection against stone and sand blasting (before next year’s Namibia & KTP trip)
    • Possibly upgrading the axle to 2,5t (not sure if this is required for normal use/load – will check with Heinz)
So far, the only aspect that I need to get sorted is a shudder emanating from the trailer when braking, felt during the last few meters before stopping. I have adjusted the brakes but this does not seem to help. I spoke to Heinz and he offered to have someone look at this for me if not sorted.
Overall, I am very happy with the Maxi. Some pictures attached
Congrats - be prepare for many visitors at campsites as this metalian is a topic starter.

We try to have ours serviced every year or at least before a long trip. Henk (joburg) did our service for us which include replacement of bearings, checking the brakes system and any other gremlins that we were aware of.

Maxine does not need a grab handle...the roof rack works just fine

Question Quite a few Metalians up forsale

Is it just my poor eyesight or am I seeing quite a few Metalians (Maxis) up for sale recently?
I see several Conqueror Conquests regularly but rarely saw a Metalian... or, relative to the volumes of trailers out there, would this trend just be from "natural causes" and therefore expected?
    Any comments?

I think it's a sign of the times, people need cash perhaps?

Probably bound to happen at some stage with plenty of Metalians out there, and I don't see it as a sign of owners not happy with the product, but rather lifestyle changes or as Kurt mentioned, people need the cash or have to cut down on payments.

certainly bound to happen - the first ones are probably 5 or 6 years old now?

People do trade in / upgrade or decide it's not working for them, A lot get used once and parked, a guy decides it's not worth keeping the money tied up.

In my case... Metalian Caravan is all I can say!

Yep, I recently found my dream Troopy so the trailer will eventually become obsolete.

Fridge cover with our lap trays on the front, more storage on the side and a snug pocket for the foil so one can pull it without having to hold on to the box.
It has a double layer of insulation with a foil lining. In my wisdom I decided to discard Henk's input and only did two layers on insulation and not three else the fridge would not fit. It just, just fits in under the above fridge drawer.

    Kitchen hatch:

You'll see two taps, the bottom one is a mixer for hot and cold water. The small one above is for filtered drinking water. There is a third one at the back which goes to an outlet on the back of the trailer....... hold that thought.... let's first finish the job, you'll be gobsmacked. LOL

Henk insisted on the flip up lid, I was not taken by it.....but he put it in regardless so I had to put meaning to it. I have to say, I'm rather chuffed with the result.

    On the offside, we have:

    F-Sections:
Heinz (in his wisdom) provides for two trays, we decided to reinvent the wheel and do three. What the heck we thought, the space is there?! (Or is it? ) It took Henk the best part of 3 days to move the electrical box, the light switch, the hela plug, the above fridge drawer interfered and so did the fridge but at the end of the day, three trays we have.

The front door with two removable shower bags:

His (and a bit of hers ) bedroom door:

Her bedroom door with three removable bags for female paraphernalia:

The back door, holds the braai grid, firelighters and stuff, my Amarula candle lamp and a removable first aid bag.

The whole shebang and we ain't done yet!
    Hello,
    Your fittings look awesome
I'd like to do something similar on my Metalian Maxi for the kitchen side.
One question though : how did you attach the system at the top ? (velcro, something else ...)
    Thanks

Doors are carpeted on the inside and the caddies got velcro on the back.

Same for the flaps that cover the top rack on the kitchen

    Hi Thomas,
Some close-up pics for kitchen side and attachment to the top. This is how our Maxi was setup when we bought it. You can also see some carpeting at the back of kitchen for a canvas bag to attach to.
    Hope this helps.

PS From your videos you have a Metalian Parthian (prev Midi) not the Maxi. There may be differences is canvas sizing from Henk and Jenny at Ultimate Overland. Check out their web site and contact them. (http://www.ultimateoverland.co.za/Canvas-bags-caddies/)

Only the tailgate door medical bag gave problems with this method. I bolted hooks to the door as the canvas kept on coming off the carpet. Otherwise Velcro on carpet works very well.

I need your expert advice. I am want to buy a camping trailer and from what I can see the metalian maxi is the only one to buy. What would you recommend as essential on a trailer. We have 2 small children age 3 and 1. We camp mostly at caravan parks like swadini but are planning a trip to the remote parts of the willekus in Desember.

    Default Metalian Maxi super thread

We have a Conqueror tent on ours with a huge 2x2m bed. We chose it so that that our young ones could sleep up there with us. Within two years they are both on a stretcher and a fold up mattress downstairs which makes the huge upstairs bed obsolete. So my advise is to get the standard tent with the add a room and put your kids downstairs. Other than that we like our built in water tanks, gas stove and electrics plus fridge slide

I have to say that the big bed does sound appealing, I am almost 2m tall and not as slim as I should be. What is the standard tent and how big would the bed be?
