Gary, very nice. One question, do the side panels have a zip and valgro or just valgro? I would also like to know about the bedroom door panel upgrade that they do, mine needs alterations as well?

All the side panels attach as follows:
    - to the awning/fly sheet with both zips and Velcro
    - to the main tent with just zips
    - to each other with just Velcro

Make sense? If not, I'll try to get more detailed photos when I pitch it again.

With regards the bedroom panel that opens onto the trailer's side, I was hoping to get it back today but it only got couriered today and thus I'll probably only see it on Monday. I'll be able to give feedback once I've received and fitted it. Was really hoping to do the fitment this weekend though.

Okay, so I have a Maxi with a Conqueror tent on top. So I chatted to Henk (hbannink) and he suggested a replacement mattress of 120mm will be awesome. We find the standard one too hard as it is only 75mm. So I got the mattress made up by someone recommended by Henk and all is good. I replaced the mattress this afternoon and at first struggled to get the tent closed, after much blood sweat and swear words we got the tent cover on. We had to remove the bedding, ladder and kitchen awning to make it fit. But..... It's in . Can't wait to test the new mattress in Kruger from 10-14 Aug.

Sounds great Kurt - Henk is right - the thicker mattress makes a huge difference (this based on various trailers/comfort vans/etc. that I've rented prior to purchase).

An ingenious "excuse" to go to the Park though, I must admit! "Honey! I've bought a new mattress! Let's go to The Park for a week to test it!"

I miss Kruger... have to wait another two months before my trip.

Heinz, this may interest you. I attended the Tuffstuff weighbridge day today. I loaded my Maxi with water, two full jerry cans, fridge with 42 beers, gazebo with poles, conqueror awning (that huge octagonal thing) with poles, camping chairs, two deep cycle batteries, gas bottle etc. There were no clothes or food but basically ready for our Kruger trip next week. We came in at 1140kg. Another attendee had a Conqueror Companion which had a 1500kg GVM rating. They had water onboard but basically empty. Total weight..... 1700kg. That's 200kg over GVM and its not even loaded. My maxi came in at 460kg under GVM which I am very impressed with. Food for thought...

My maxi came in at 920kg, okay, I do not have awnings, my fridge was empty as well as water tanks, but that leaves a lot for more beers, 680kgs worth

    Wrong!
    They had a Conqueror Commander.

I have a Conqueror Conquest which is the Conqueror closest to the Metalian Maxi.
    I came in at R1180kg

So, KurtG Metalian Maxi full except clothes & food - 1140kg
Sakush Metalian Maxi no water, empty fridge, no clothes & no food - 920kg
Mad Manny Conqueror Conquest, no clothes, no water - otherwise full - 1180kg.

Add 150kg worth of water and two full jerrys and you are close to 1500kg....

You need to also consider that both those Metalians would have had 2x (massive) rear drawers, two side cupboards and shelves, and that the box only offers 3000 litres of pack volume. The slides we use are rated 180 kg and weigh three times what I normally see in trailers (which is the 80 kg slides.)

Generally a fully kitted Metalian works out to between 750 and 820 kgs. This is why we list the weight of each and every accessory you add to our trailers.

Then consider that a large portion of the weight is the same, axle, leafsprings, coupler, rims, tyres battery, etc.. and you really start to appreciate the engineering thought behind the Metalian design. We're substantially lighter than anyone on an apples for apples basis.

Manny, with all undue respect, my point stands. The manufacturer of a Companion or Commander or Potato or Potaato gives a gvm of 1500kg and barely loaded it comes in at 1700kg. Very false advertising IMHO. Dangerous for those that buy one assuming their car can handle 1500kg and it can't, legally or mechanically.

Agree with you Kurt. It is downright dangerous.

One of my neighbours have a weightbridge on his farm, before our last trip I took my loaded Conqueror Conquest to see what the real weight was. Fully loaded my trailer came in on 1260kg. I don't take water along, but the two Jerrys was full. Say the 150lt water weighs 150kg then my weight could have been 1410kg, still legal.

Oh I am battling to say goodbye to my Maxi. Have not even started advertising the trailer in Zambia but it make sense to let go of the Zambian reg trailer

I can imagine Bertie. Probably one of the best kitted Maxi's out there!

I agree, that's what camping's about. We're 'Wildtuin' (Kruger) fans, 1st time Kgalagadi and really enjoyed.

Re-fitted the new inner panel during the evenings last week in prep for our first run this past weekend. Inner panel is a huge improvement and weekend's camping was awesome. Lots on the to-do list before the next trip to Punda Maria in September. Not the best photos but photos nonetheless.
