Talking What did you do this weekend???

    Hey all

Would be nice to hear about what you did this weekend, whether it was a trail, a route or a trip to the carwash!

And to make it interesting make sure you post plenty of juicy pics!

    I'll go first.

My partner and I decided to visit Hennops this Sunday just passed(17Feb0. It was our second outing ever on a 4x4 trail and we had an absolute blast! Or weapon of choice was a stock Cherokee 3.7 V6 and I must say that she did us proud. She did complain a bit though when she scraped a few(too many) times. But no serious damage done. Here are some pics

Highlight of the day was catching up with the gang from the Isuzu Offroad Club. They immediately spotted that we were as green as hills as far as 4x4'ing goes and promptly offered for us to tag along! Needless to say we jumped at the chance and spent the rest of the afternoon trailing these guys and managing to keep up 75% of the time! One spot where we definately decided to go safe was the nasty rocky climb, the safety exit was preferred over smashed exhaust and rear diff

Anyhoo, it's a good thing we did meet up with these guys cause a little while later this happened

funnily enough we did this obstacle without any problem earlier in the day, but this time we took a different line and ended up wedged in with the only means of exit being at the end of a tow leading from an Isuzu (thx Robert, Jaco and Nico!)

There were shouts all round of "If you don't get stuck, you're not playing hard enough!".... Great attitude from a great bunch of guys!

And to lessen the blow of getting in a jam, our rescuer ended up doing this

Great fun all round, we'll be back....

So who's next with their weekend story

Yup, they say crazy people have the best time. Jokes aside, they were a great lot, made us newbies feel very welcome which is always nice

We camped at De Tronk in the Groot Winterhoek Mountains near Porterville this past weekend. Walked down to Die Hel - not the Gamkaskloof one, obviously! - which is supposed to be the biggest natural pool in the Western Cape. Fantastic place with a beautiful waterfall. There are also some beautiful rock formations along the hiking trail on the way.

Unfortunately I took most of my photographs with a video camera and I don't have a means of connecting it to the computer yet. Must get a cable...

    On my weekend got KFC.

And took both my kids and my wife to the doctors - one burst eardrum, one broncho-pneumonie and one Laringitis and flu.

Went camping at Yzerfontein, with family and friends. Very nice relaxing weekend. Then got stung by a Burrowing Scorpion while packing up. OUCH!!! Luckily not venomous, just very sore.

I hiked up Klapmuts peak on Saturday morning to have a look at how most of the Cape's vinyards are doing. After that it was sleeping and rugby for most of the weekend.

We spend a nice rustic weekend camping at Pilansberg. Park looks great after all the rain. Not good for spotting the animals, but great for a boerseun to see the veld so lush and green!

Did get to recover a Land Rover though! Had to lend him MY pump from MY PAJERO to inflate a rear wheel. And all of that in HighRange.

    He He, Nice one LowRange.

How is it at the Pilansberg? My old man talks about sometimes. Is it self drive like at KNP?

I much prefer self drive places where you can drive when you want, stop when you want etc. I ain't a fan of doing guided safari gamedrives.

Come to think of it, where else are good places to do self-drive with camping/chalet accomodation? I've heard that Marakele is for 4x4 only, anyone been there?

We camped at Marakele last year Easter. It's very nice with only 38 camping sites and not fenced . Although we did not experience it, I saw some photos of guys having a braai and the next moment a rhino is standing next to them . They say it's for 4x4 only, but you should be able to drive most of the tracks in a bakkie with reasonable ground clearance or a soft 4x4. People I know go there regularly with their Audi A4 .

Also been at Hennops on Sunday

PS. Thanx for scraping the road for me ... Also had a KJ before the prado, but didn't even dare to drive over a brick with that ground clearance.

    Hey Sako

I'm just trying to remember seeing a blue Prado that day, can't be too sure.

There was another KJ there that day, a white CRD. It was brand spanking new and it was the first time the guy had taken it out. I did see him do a real smash over a huge rock when coming out of one of those donga's Hit his front bash plates and then really scraped over his fuel tank, ouch!

I agree that ground clearance is pretty poor, that's why I'm now investigating upgrading my suspension.

    Hehe, good time there hey?
