    Hi All

Let's see..... So far the only things 4x4 related I've done this weekend is the buy a recovery kit, look at some tyres at LA Sport in Broadacres, and then got a real juicy flat tyre while driving to a local nursery.

Pulled a stone out of it that looked like a dagger, luckily enough I had my compressor and tyre repair kit so I was back on the road in about 15 minutes... that tyre repair kit is magic!

Dunno about the Isuzu tyres, maybe the owner of that nice Isuzu will chime in...

    Anyhoo

I decided to take a trip to De Wildt late this afternoon for a bash around. I took my neighbour who has a SWB Pajero V6 3000.

We has a great time apart from 2 cockups
Me driving into a small tree and pulling half my front right fender off Luckily the Cherokee has plastic clip on fenders so it waqs easy just to clip it back on and then carry on.

Second was when we went to the play area at De Wildt. I drove through that pool and just as I came out the other side all power was lost so I was left half in/half out the pool. Luckily I had bought a recovery kit yesterday and we managed to get me pulled out. BTW - Only today did I realise that power has be on for the foot brakes to work, I only realised this at the end of the recovery when I was heading down the slope at a rate of knots toward the back end of my neighbours Mitsu.... All I can say is thank god for hand brake!! That saved a bit more damage!!

Here are some pics of the day

Great day, only obstacle we could not do was that rock face!!

Yo Bundu, great pics. Looks like you're really starting to enjoy your Jeep. That rock face? Was out there about 3 years ago. If I remember correct, if you keep far left there's a clean line without any cross axles or steps. It looks far worse than it actually is.

Ask Johan and his boys to go show you Rhino Hill at Berakah. There's been more people into space than up Rhino. Johan and Robert took their Suzies up it a while back.

Also go check out "Van Zyl's Pass" at Hennops Pride Eco Trail. It's about 4km south of where you guys played the other weekend. It's here, roughly S25 50' 03.4" E02758'4.57"

Another one that you would have enjoyed, but unfortunately Rooi Koos sold his farm, is Shamach, other side of Nylstroom. Some REALLY aptly named obstacles there, all natural. MAN I'd love to do that trail again. If you've done Serindipity just up the road from Shamach, regard that as grandma's Sunday afternoon cruize. If that trail opens tomorrow, I'll be at the gate waiting......and I know a couple of nutcases who will COMPETE for the honour of being first in the queue.

    Hey Guys

4Wheel Lover. Thanks for the info. I tried to go up that rock face on the right hand side and only managed to get maybe up halfway before my Jeep started slipping back and right Hopefully next time I go there I'll have some better suited tyres to help!

Thanks also for the trail location tips, I'll be sure to have a squiz.

Tankgirl - Nice looking Wrangler u got there. Congrats on the maiden voyage De Wildt was also my first trail about 6 weeks ago, so you are not too far behind me

P0rno or not, at least you are representing

Got my Prado end of last month and eventually got time to test the offroad ability.

Well the vehicle really suprised me with its capabilities and I am more than happy after getting it.

We took it to Hennops yesterday which was a little bit wet here and there but there was nothing which the Prado could not do.

Bundu Boy, I presume you were talking about this rock face ...must say that tires do make a BIG difference.

MITSUCO, congrats on the new prado, it sure is a very nice vehicle...does yours have the rear difflock?

    Hay Sako

    Yup, that's the one

Nice job getting up there, clap clap

Yup, larger tyres with better tread and a bit more ground clearance was what I needed. No matter, I'm working on fixing both those issues on my Cherokee.

Gert se Klip... I'll be back

Eish, a little too far for a day trip then

What recommendations are there for trails around Gauteng?
So far I've only done De Wildt, Hennops and a training day at Protea Eco-Tours...

So many other places I'm sure

Have a look at the back of SA4x4 mag. They have a long list of trails with contact details.

Yup, I keep track of what's available through Wegry or SA4x4.

I'm wondering about any hidden gems that are not advertised in these magazines that would be worth visiting...

    Bundu Boy

I went up Gert se Klip (De Wildt) a few weeks ago, taking the right hand side. I basically idled up without any problems without using the diff-lock. My brother in his DC couldn't make it using the line I took (diff-lock wasn't functioning). I guided him up further to the left, but not all the way to left. If you go to far left, there's a nasty piece of rock sticking out that's going to damage your sills if your ground clearance is not enough.

Yup, I saw that nasty jagged rock on the left, that's why I went up the right.

But my poor Cherokee has pretty poor clearance so almost any route up there would have gotten a bit of a scrape....

Gert se Klip has become my first targeted obstacle, I'll get my Cherokee up there through hell or high water!!

Hey 4 Wheel Lover, 'wat wil my volgende bande gaan wees?'

I'm getting shot of the Goodyear Wrangler SR-A's shortly so any ideas would be great, I'm thinking 245/70/16 will be the way to go...

    Sakkie

It wasn't the ST's, it was the cross-axle that got to him. The cross-axle did not affect me due to the wheelbase

The were some other minor cross-axles that I couldn't do without the diff-lock, but Kleinboet could driving the same line I did, once again a wheelbase issue
