I think the ARB is not to blame here. I have towed game trailers in 35deg heat, 3.5tons with ARB, big lightforce spots and never a hassle with a airconditioner.

    Its one of the following:
    1. Radiator is blocked up by seeds or just needs a good flush.
    2. Injectors not right, running the engine a little hot.
    3. Injector pump
    4. Faulty a/c. insufficient gas or something.

Aircon checked - thought to be original problem
    Re-gassed, still same.
Some sensor had to be oredered, and was replaced.
    Still no change.
    Radiator was checked.
    Intercooler Checked.
    Thermostat replaced.
    Fan checked.
    SAC Chip removed.
I suppose something next to check would be Fuel mixture.
Vehicle does not smoke or sound odd.

If he does this instead of trading it in on something else I'll keep you posted.

Did you eventually find the problem? I have that issue with my d4d now. Standard, no towing, only happens on long drives after 2 hrs or so. Normal highway speeds

Ever thing that the Explorer is just to much for the vehicle. Often diesel drivers do not realise how the combustion temp increases under load. Simply depressing the accelerator to get more out drives the EGT to dangerous levels. A more sedate approach to hills and using the gears will reduce the load on the engine and thus reduce the temps.

A bigger radiator will often not solve the problem as the limiting factor is the flow of the coolant/water through the engine.

Experience was with a 4.2 diesel that I then fitted with a Safari Turbo and Intercooler. ran for 400 k km + with no issues. The best investment was a EGT gauge. It teaches you how to drive a diesel for reliably.

Problem was never solved and it was traded in on a new model.
I suppose the EGT would have been the next thing to check?

And I assume the grass and seeds, between all radiators, was cleaned out.

Was part of the Radiator check.
Radiator was removed, cleaned & pressure test done.

    Next stoopid question.

Were the fluted checked that they were still true and not oval. That totally buggers the capabilities of the radiator.

Unfortunately I wasn't with when he had it checked.
    Also vehicle is gone.
With him not being very mechanical orientated I think he relied on what he was told.
Got sick of throwing money at it and the problem not getting resolved.
Since then he has had the 2.5 and then got the 3.0 d4d again.
    Very happy so far.
    Hasn't messed with chips etc.
    Kept it STD.

I saw it was sold, but I was just wondering. I hate to let something like that just slide by. My brain wants to know why.
