Default VW Festival - World record attempt.

This took place yesterday and we hoped to break the world record of 1251 vehicles park in the shape of the brand logo. The final tally was 911 Vollas parked in the VW logo - well short of the world record. However - could this perhaps be a South African record? Does anybody know?

Sounds pretty cool. Don't you have a pic of the logo for us?

(I have no idea about the SA record)

We're still waiting for the official/final pics. Will post when it becomes available.

Thank you. It really does sound amazing, and I'd love to see the pics. I don't even want to know (or actually I really do ) the amount of organization that has to go into something like this, and how you get all the cars parked in the right place etc

What makes this effort even more admirable is the fact that it was organized by one guy with a passion for his Volksie and a bunch of his friends (of whom some discouraged him to do it), very little resources and hardly any support from the brand owner!

A spirited effort by spirited owners of spirited cars. (See some pics here)

Thanks for the link. Looks like it was a great event. Congrats to the one guy and his passion for Volksies to have pulled it off

I'd love to see the final aerial photo of the logo. I'm wondering if it was taken or not, as I did not see a helicopter in the air from 11h00 onwards. Only chance would have been from the aircraft with the sky-divers.

Vossie, pretty certain this is the largest Africa gathering of VW's ever. Will be difficult to verify with so many clubs etc. around.

I heard that a certain manufacturer of quality German vehicles withdrew their sponsorship of the chopper to take the aerial pics at the last minute and that the organiser then had to get someone in a gyrocopter to do it. If this is true, then its is really sad - well - pathetic actually!

It was nice to meet you too, Henk.

Yes good to meet you too, sure there will be many times more.

I really want to see that final photo if it exists. Saw the remote controlled aircraft, but doubt that would even be able to carry a GoPro

If that is true, then they deserve 1000 enthusiasts heading for their social media portals and voicing their opinions. Unbelievable, can't help but think there must be more to this story...

Here they are - taken by the paragliders and a drone. (because the chopper sponsor dropped the fans! )

With more commitment and proper support from the bigger role players (read VWSA) next time, the Russian record will be toast.

    So - any local challengers?
