mine does the same
|
Hi all. The sticky thread did not contain anything similar so here is my issue.
After returning from a recent trip driving in severe dusty conditions, the Triton's 4 wheel lights does not go out. It flickers and has been doing so ever since.
I thought a good turbo spray wash in the engine bay and/or under carriage would get rid of whatever is causing this but no.
With the Colt I've been able to tend to its similar issue myself, but have no idea with theTriton.
Has someone had a similar experience and if so, where is the little actuator pump/vacuum switch/solenoid/sensor culprit thingy situated so I could address it?

The system on the colt and triton is very similar.
Check the switch on the front diff. They are very problematic.
When Idling check that the front propshaft is free to turn, when out of 4x4.
If it turns the wheels the entire time, then the two vacuum switches are also faulty and need to be replaced. They sit under the airfilter on the inside of the fender.
Check them with a multi meter. They must read 400 ohms or there abouts. If they not even close, then replace them as e set.

OK, so I've decided on today to try and sort out my 4x4 flashing lights issue.
I actually planned on taking off and cleaning my air inlet manifolt but got discouraged when I saw what a big job it is. I'll rather leave that one for the experts.
Haydn, a 1st inspection revealed no vacuum switches at all near or under the airfilter housing. I know on the Colt this is where they're located. Maybe the 3.2's and the 2.5's differ in this regard?
I''ll check the switch at the front diff next.

Ok, I have found and solved the problem.
Still don't know where those vacuum switches are, but they're defintely on the driver's side near the air box.
On the pics you will see the 2 rubber pipes coming from those hidden vacuum swtiches and terminating in the little actuator pump. I found the one to have worn through and you can clearly see something rubbed against it. This is actually cause for concern as I cannot see what did this.
Luckily it is close to the actuator nozzle so I just cut and slid the pipe further over the nozzle.
Then there is the shaft that when activated by the actuator pump, slides left and right to engage or disengage 4x4.
Look how dirty it was with a grinding paste like substance at both ends. I cleaned it off and gave it a good whirl with good old Q20.
The shaft moves more freely now and 4x4 lights off! Hapiness.

I might have to also have a look at mine, also seems to be acting up
Nico dankie vir die fotos, myne maak nog niks maar ek kan nou bietjie inspeksie hou.
Yes that will definately cause the flashing green light problem.
Trace those rubber pipes up into the engine compartment and you will fined the two vacuum/electric switches.
But no need if the problem solved

I put flexible tubing over it as I kept having the same issue. After doing so the hose never got damaged on my colt but by the time I sold it the outer tubing I installed was breaking apart.

It's a pleasure guys.
I just glad I could sort it myself.
My sump plates had a few dents in them and they cover the diff and the actuator pump and the shaft.
Wondering if it is possible that a hard knock could've caused the pype to sheer where it had. In other words a knock so hard that the sump plate traveled up far enough to squash the pipe against the nozzle?
I think it may be time for a bash plate.
