When I was an ankle-biter, our bicycle saddles were made of thick leather with two coil springs at the rear. Cycling on this was a pleasure. I now weigh at least twice what I weighed back then and the new saddles are ridiculously narrow and tend to display proctologist tendencies when I cycle. Are the old saddles no longer available anywhere??

They are still available , but for more serious cycling the narrower saddles help with the "fiction areas" your bum takes a while to get hard and used to it. For a cruiser type bike the big saddle are the way to go

We've got a kind of love/hate affair. Right now, it is all good though.

    Pinarello FP Quattro.

I've done about 3000 km on her.

Interesting... the local Cycle Shops had no idea of what I was talking about. I would go for one of these in a shot if i could get these guys to just order one for me. have no inclination to do any cycling other than for pleasure, and occasionally for travelling to work and back.

Not having met you before I was expecting a Apoc type of picture with a broken or damaged bike.

Its really a niche bike that only a few people gets the pleasure off owning.

I know it is not a bicycle, but I still have to peddal.

The big one is a 36er with 125mm cranks and has a disc brake. Hi-tech stuff. The smaller one is a 29er on 145mm cranks with a Magura rim brake.

Yep. Brooks saddles are still made here, and highly sought after by touring riders. I don't know whether they export, but email them and see what they say.

This is their SA agent, from their website:

    I started MTB'ng Nov 2012 with this Anthem 1 26er.

In the first year, I managed 990km, mostly on the local Spruit in JHB and other rides on my travels up north. Then in January 2014 something happened, and I have covered 2300km up to 11 May.

    Still going strong.

Swambo has a Trek 6700 26er which has had an upgrade a few weeks ago with some lekker Fulcrum Red Metal 3 wheels. The hub was messed and the quote to fix the old back wheel was R5300!
