    Default Roof rack load capacity

We are planning a trip to Botswana in May and need to carry all with us ( water, diesel etc) for a week into the CKGR. My question is this, how much weight can I load onto my roof rack. I intend building a draw system for my Disco4, we have decided to use the entire rear area as we are only two of us in the vehicle, an advise on a system like this.

What roof rack is it? You must look at the producers website to find that out or ask them.

I am looking at the Frontrunner slimline 2. The load capacity for the roof rack is 300kg, however that does not tell me what the manufacturer recommends as the load limit for the roof.

I would only pack the absolutely neccessary on the roof rack,
    e.g. Jerry cans, spare tyre.

    For CKGR you will need + - 20 l per 100 km,
water 5 l washing and 5 l drinking per person per day,
you can top up washing water at the Ghanzi gate.

Can't you find out the max load of the car at the manufacterer ?

I would not put much more than 100 kg on a roof while driving. More will become a safety risk when driving.

Thanks for this. I have looked in the vehicle books, but there is no info on the roof load capacity. Will contact the dealer on Monday.

Best to contact them. See they keep referring to 75KGs, so not sure if that is for the most competent rack or for safety reasons the capacity the roof can take. Meanwhile while you wait for the dealer to open on Monday read this interesting article by DriveOut magazine

The Disco is rated at 75Kg.
This is as a safety point while driving as the cog is lifted pretty high.
I know the Disco can handle more weight than that.
I would recommend keeping as little weight that high as possible.
When you lift the suspension due to conditions it becomes even worse, although your speed is lower.
