    Default Solar panel battery charger

Yes, I did search, but the solutions that came up dealt with either dual battery systems, or maintaining a 12V system for a campsite.

Years ago I vaguely remember that one could buy these little solar panels that you put on the dashboard and plugged into the cigarette lighter socket. They'd then quietly keep the battery charged - perfect for vehicles that end up standing for a while.

I'm looking for something like that, or an alternate idea to maintain the T'can's battery over extended periods (up to three months). Doesn't have to be able to charge the battery, but should be able to maintain it at roughly 12V and be able to compensate for the minor drain of electronics of a parked car.

Running an extension lead is not an option.

Open to ideas and suggestions please!

@Fanatic: No, doesn't have to be solar, but solar is convenient. Open to other ideas and suggestions...

@moetbiedjiewegkom: thanks for the link! I'll check it out.

A simple trickle charger from Midas is about R450. It's about the size of a packet of cigarettes.

Works very well to keep the battery fully charged.

Oops...saw now you say running an extension is a problem...

Then why not get a small solar panel and regulator. That would work as well.

That would probably be a better, more useful solution - can then use it in a campsite as well.

Back to "search" and see how the budget can deal with it. The bidorbuy option is cheap enough to try for a short while at least.
