It amazes me if they have not redesigned that plastic sill as it has been criticized in many reviews of the Duster. My road is always muddy after rains and I have to be very careful to step out far enough to avoid getting mud or dirt on the back of my pant leg. Most annoying!

You just know the Duster is a great vehicle if the biggest complaint is that you have to take a big step out to keep your pant leg clean... my wife has the 1.5 dci edc and we both love it.

My dad had an attempted break in on his Duster. Passenger door lock has popped out halfway, no other damage is seems like. Would it be better to get this sorted at the dealership or a reputable locksmith?

So Renault want R2300 for a new lock and R2700 for labour, seems quite excessive IMO. Do the Duster use the same locks as the NP200 bakkies? Advised my dad to try smiley key locksmiths in Pretoria rather.

That does sound excessive. What area is your dad in? If the vehicle is out of warranty I'd say there are much better options, especially around the Pretoria area.

He is in Pretoria. I'm not sure if the vehicle is still under warranty, think it's a 2017 model, but he has just gone past 50000km so maybe that's the issue.

Any suggestions as to where he can take the car if the suggested locksmith can't help him?

The latest Duster offers something more resembling a running board, see first pic, which looks like you can step onto it. Personally, I'd rather have a local fabricator make rock sliders - second pic.

If you can DIY, they can be ordered online for a fraction of the price. However, it won't be keyed to your key. As it is a vulnerable point, I'd be tempted to weld it flush and re-spray. You can always enter by the other front or rear door, if the battery is flat.

When I went to have a spare key made for my Duster it was quite expensive and the guy had to sit in my car and program it. Surprised me.

    That step is optional.

This is what ours looks like, standard, on all models.Click image for larger version.

@Clouder does it seem to project out less than the old style? Is it easy to get in and out with out dirtying pant leg after driving on muddy road? From your photo looks like it might be better.

The price for key chip reprogramming is quite variable here. Some have good equipment and can do it quickly for less cost, but yes, it's done in the car to make sure the transponder reacts correctly allowing the vehicle to start.

Do you get the Renault Koleos in South Africka? I am toying with upgrading to one. It has the same 4x4 system sourced from Nissan as the Duster but is bigger and cushier. Unlike the Duster assembled here in Colombia it is assembled in Korea.

Yes, the Koleos is available here. From what I've read, it has great off-road capability

We do get the new Koleos here in South Africa. Recently released, and I agree, it looks very nice indeed. On paper, also super-capable. Perhaps it will be the model to make up for the Kadjar, which seemed to be a flop.

Still, I don't know if it has that "thing" that the Duster has that makes it so popular.

The previous Koleos was just plain ugly, 2nd Gen was better than the 1st Gen.

But the new one being more square in looks might make it more acceptable
