    Default Mabua water update please?

Good evening! A lot of forumites are headed to Mabua in 2 weeks or so, so Im sure this is on everyones minds!

If you have been in Mabua in the last say month, could you please let us know where water is available in the park?

In May there was only water at Lesholoago 2

Any news would assist in planning!

    Thanks!!

Hi, we got back from Mabua a few weeks ago. Most of the pans are dry. Apart from the drinking water in the trailer's tank, we filled a Jerry can each day at the ranger's camp just north of Mpayathutlwa pan for showering. Mpayathutlwa, campsite 1 also had water.

Returned last week. No water at Mabua camp sites. Pans also dry. Went and fill my tank at the Mabua gate. A guy at the gate were very helpfull. It's about an hours drive one way. Use it as a game view trip.
Lesholoago had water for the animals and I think Mpayathulwa as well.

The old ranger camp near Mpaya Pan (north) has a brand new solar powered water pump.
There is a stand pipe in the yard as well as water to the showers.
Mind there is a "no entry" sign from the pan side access but when coming from Mabua pan and turning left at the track into the camp it is not blocked.
The camp in itself looks abandoned, meaning nobody is permanently there.

This is much closer from Mabua than the gate, about 12 kms.

Thanks Herman & Kalahari Safari! Much appreciated!
The old scout camp was in use in May when I was there by vulture researchers and some spoor trackers... interesting side note: the spoor guys tracked 4 wild dogs for 65km on the cutline when we were there!

Hey Walter, that no entry sign is no more! I saw it resting peacefully in the bushes next to the track!

Returned from Mabua 2 weeks ago. Water hole at Mpaya active > others pans dry.
Game viewing is good at Mpaya pan and surrounds. Mabua pan is dead quiet.

Very good thread Adrian!! since my bookings in Mabua seems like one of a gypsy, will I be pushing my luck to try and get the Scouts Camp? Would be interesting to find out from members if anyone has camped there before?
    Cheers!!

Vagn, Maybe some visitors have taken the liberty to extend the access a bit - good news indeed.
I don't see a point of not making use of the facilities if you leave them as you found them - say after the showers.

This I would not recommend, it would give the park officials the perfect background to close it off and restrict access again.
So please, get your water there, fill up the tanks, take the shower, use the toilets and then vacate the place.

Interesting thing is, there were lots of lion and hyena spoor through the fence gate where the tank and pump is located, so it is not only us who make use of the scarce commodity.

You right, however this can only be done with the permission of Park Officials?

You can't miss it! It's about 500m to the right of the north road leading away from Mpaya to Mabua.

    Correct,
You can spot the green water tank from far (and the old ranger houses).
Check out the new solar pump installation - neatly done.

Dit het so 10 mm gereen verlede week. Die panne is droog maar die veld is goed en daar is nogsteeds baie wild . Die pad na Nossob toe is baie sleg , maak seker alles is stewig vas anders gaan jy skade kry.
