Thumbs up New tyres from Goodyear

I'm very exited about the new tyres from Goodyear, specially the Goodyear all terrain adventure kevlar 255/60 19" for the Disco 4. This could be just the tyre we've been waiting for. Does anyone know how long it will take before we have it available in SA?

The tires are only 109 load rated vs the 255/55R19's that are 111 load rated.

This is what I could find on the tyre load difference and my opinion is that it should not be such a big issue or what? ''
    Tyres:
It should be noted that the standard Disco3 tyre fitment for an HSE model in the United Kingdom is 255/55/19 with a 111 weight rating. The minimum weight rating in the UK is 111 per tyre, while in Australia a lower limit of 109 applies. LR do NOT recommend the fitment of the RRS 255/50/19 107 tyre to the Disco3 due to the smaller rolling circumference and the lower load rating.''

I guess you have not been in a vehicle with a high speed tyre burst. Where did you find out about the D4 being lighter than a D3?

Sorry PieterV, my mistake, did rectify it, but you was to quick on my reply. Do you think that a 60kg weight difference will really put you at risk for a tyre burst?

I would never put lower (than manufacturer) spec tyres on my vehicle, and then put my family in it. The tyre might never let go, or burst on a straight piece of road at 120km/h, or worse...

    BTW, what's wrong with Duratrac?

What Duratrac, cant find any that fits on n 19'' wheel? only Wrangler HP and this new all terrain kevlar has a 60 profile, just what we need for proper offroad driving.

Good Year Duratrac comes in 255/55/19. It is an A/T tyre. Some guys have fitted them to D4s in SA

The Duratrac is one of the options I'm looking at, so is the Scorpions and the Grabbers - all in the correct size, load rating and profile. Putting four tyres of 60 profile on seems like an excellent idea for off-road use, until you have a flat and the spare wheel is a 55 profile. As far as I know the electronic thingies in the Disco4 will realise some difference in the circumfrence and will throw a tantrum.

Where did you find out about these tyres. Good Year SA website is useless as it has no tyres that will fit a D4. If you log onto Good Year EMEA then you can see the HP, Duratrac and a winter tyre listed.

I found the Good Year AT Adventures listed in America. Their load rating is 109 vs 111. This will be an issue with insurance. Also the speed rating tops out at T (189 KM/h) and not V as the standard tyres fitted to the car. If you want Good Year the Duratec are the better way to go.

I'd go with the Scorpion ATR's the Aussies love them. Their magazines rate them highly test after test. It also seems they test the tyres properly in all conditions.

Anyone else used Goodyear Wrangler AT? I have had them on my Discovery 3 HSE. Am about to replace and normally get them at a better price than anything else, but might consider trying something else. These tires are the only tires I've ever known so can't tell if there might be anything better as I have nothing to compare them to.

A friend has the Duratec Kevlar on his D4 and he is very happy. That tyre was developed with LR as a target market.Wish they brought the 17" size to SA.If I had a D4 the GY Duratec A/T would be my first choice

DiscoFrans the Goodyear Wrangler AT's have the kevlar(dupont) technology built in and I used them on my disco 3 whitch is available in 17". Very good tyres. No flats through NamibiŽ tour and I towed an offroad trailer.
Then don't forget the Cooper LTZ for the Disco 4. 111(1090Kg) H(210Km) rating. Exelent tyre. Very happy. They super quite on the road and have exelent handeling offroad. Good in sand without deflating them. Doing the AD(Atlantis Dunes) test soon

Wynand, when you refer to the Wrangler ATs, I assume you refer to the Duratrac ATs or am I wrong?

No not the Duratrac. The Wrangler At's have a different track profile. Not so aggressive as the Duratrac's. Some info from Goodyear themselves

"The Wrangler AT/SA from Goodyear featuring SilentArmor Technology fulfils the needs of 4x4 drivers who want to have excellent performance both on- and off the road. The tyre allows driving with confidence on rough roads, thanks to the durability of two layers made with DuPont™ Kevlarģ, a material stronger than steel, and Durawall™ sidewall reinforcement that enhances cut resistance in the sidewalls."

    I used the 265/65/17 WRL AT/SA with a 112T rating on the Disco3

Thanks for the info. I will have to do a bit research to see if the are available in 255/55/19 for the D4. At this point in time it seems that the Duratrac is the better option AT for me
