Default Please help....8 months of nothing!!

The gearbox of our Ssangyong actyon sport 4x4 dc AT 2009 model was damaged during January 2013. It was sent to someone in Jhb by the local ssangyong mechanic but was returned with some of our parts missing and some "other" parts placed into the damaged box. Needless to say neither the gearbox centre nor the couriers took responsibility.

Since then I have been struggling to find a recon gearbox. I have had 5 different boxes couriered to me just to hear that it is not the correct one. Only people smiling are the couriers. Apparently my gearbox has a small square plastic plug where all the electrical wires gets attached to the engine and everytime we get one with a round plug.

It has now been 8 months that I have been paying for a vehicle that I can not use.

Someone told me that we should consider a lexus conversion? Do anyone know whether this is a good idea? My husband is set on keeping the 4x4 feature, I just want a vehicle that I can actually use!!

Better yet, maybe someone know of a ssangyong actyon gearbox out there that is the correct box for this vehicle?

Please, I really am desperate now.

Hi Lexus motors are VERY good - but an expensive conversion to make. Perhaps I can help you out. Give me a shout if you still need help.

    Default Research

Hi, the only way to solve the problem is to get good knowledge from a person that knows your vehicle / gearbox type or to do your own research on the internet.

It may just be that the manufacturer made a running change in the factory and changed the square plug for a round one OR that they in fact changed the gearbox type all together.

Start with the exact type and version number of the gearbox that is in your original vehicle and compare to the types (5) that was sent to you.

If it appears that the gearboxes are indeed different, then your best bet would be to approach the engine importers (they also import gearboxes) and source the exact box you need. It will more than likely be a Mercedes related product.

Possibly you could also visit a reputable gearbox repairer, talk to a person with knowledge and experience and dont simply believe everything a counter salesmen tells you.

    Knowledge will be your advantage.
Find the solutions, not the problems.

have a look at these websites. You WILL find the correct information. Then you can take it from there.

    http://www.ssangyongownersclubofaust...orum/index.php
    http://www.ssangyongclub.co.uk/forum
    www.fourgreen.com

    Parts can be imported.

The new Ssangyongs are not using Mercedes parts anymore. SY build their own engines and gearboxes, but parts are available and your g/box is repairable. Where did you courier them from? I'll pm you a number of a reputable person in JHB, Honeydew that will be able to help you. Whatever you do, do not send it to EW motors in Krugersdorp.

    Hello Tokhein

Maybe this dont help you but Ssangyong made a recall in 2009 on automatic transmissions on your Ssangyong Actyon Sport 4x4 dc AT 2009 model.

I am not sure is this was a public recall but there dealers network know about this issue.

I have uploaded the Ssangyong Technical Department note about this matter. Please check it to see is your gearbox is the same model they are talking about.

Not sure if your car has this same gearbox or maybe since you car is out of warranty you cant claim anything........ But you need to be carefully when you going to buy a used one in order to not get one that is a leaf over of one included in the recall notice.

    Hope this info help you

    Good luck,

    Isaac

    hi,

try a place called Engineland or Bestland. They specialise in importing Korean engines and gearbox from Korea. They should be able to assist with another Actyon gearbox for you. There is a branch in Joburg. Look up www.engineland.co.za . All the best.
