Below are the details, this is still in draft form and will be updated shortly but it is essential that I advise you of the details.

Please spread this to your members as soon as possible so that we can support Pieter, Stuart and Joe.

This day is being arranged by Pieter Pretorius who holds the portfolio of ORRA on the AAWDC Cape Committee and is being very ably supported by Stuart with this day.

A huge thank you to 4x4Direct. check out their website www.4x4direct.co.za

You should include discussion of the new licence free radios - Bosvark, Zarteks etc - Growing number of 4x4's are using them.

Every one wants a radio. With a radio comes responsibility and surrounding issues.
When an event is organised. No one is interested.
    So guys dont complain anymore.
Stuff like this is organised and if you dont take the opportunity, well dont complain.
Thanks Ashley for your effort, but you cant suck blood out of a stone.

Just make sure you are in possession of a current licence even an ORRA one.
    Otherwise "pappa wag vir jou"

Who was the target audience for this event? Or what did you hope to achieve\convey with this event?
I think we need to rethink what we think we know...

I was writing a long reply but then realised obviously you did not read the first post so what's the point.

    It is all contained there.

Am I then correct in saying that this was for someone in the industry, or at least for the hobbyist?

No, not really it was for you and me to find out more about radios.

Maybe the words are big but essentially it means why 29 megs have a shorter range than VHF, where is the best place to install the antenna to get the best reception etc. Why you should earth the antenna etc.. Also why handhelds don't reach as far as mobile installations as one is 5w and the other 25w.

Testing the SWR of your antenna and maybe trimming the whip etc...

Also the idea was to get together afterwards at the fire and get to know each other.

I think the location also had a lot to do with it but hopefully we can try again sometime more central.

The hobbyists go to Radio Ham Meetings I used to go but don't have enough time for all of it anymore

This what I wrote: Discussions will be centred around 29 Meg Hz and VHF radios mainly and not discussions regarding ORRA Licences.

Yes, Yes I do BUT, from recent discussions in an(other) thread(s) we are unable to obtain new licenses via ORRA

Definitely not getting involved in this one.....

It will be discussed and debated at the upcoming Strategy Session in Gauteng in October and hopefully resolved.
