    Dear ########

RE : PERSONAL INSURANCE POLICY NO. ####### : PREMIUM INCREASE

For the past fifteen to eighteen months, the short term insurance market in general has been feeling the effect of the increase in the number and the value of claims being paid out on all classes of insurance.
Unfortunately, the effect of the increase in claims has not escaped our clients and it is with regret that we inform you that with effect from 1st March 2008 your premiums are to be increased by 15%.

We confirm having looked at alternative markets to place your insurance cover in order to ascertain whether this increase proposed by your insurers is reasonable and advise that alternative quotations have proved to be more expensive and in some cases cover is not as good as you presently enjoy. In the circumstances we are presently updating your policy schedule and will shortly forward onto you the updated schedule reflecting the revised premiums.

There are two changes to the policy wording and extensions which will come into effect on 1 March 2008.

    1. Limited Car Hire cover under the motor section is no
longer included free of charge. Full Car Hire cover is available at R50.00 per month per vehicle and is only activated on request.
    2. The benefits under the Loyalty Club Extension (only
applicable if you have selected this benefit) have been reduced. The Health, Leisure, Travel & Connect benefits have been deleted.

Should you have any queries whatsoever, please direct your queries to either myself or the persons listed below.

We take this opportunity to thank you for your support and look forward to being of service to you in the future.

Better than Resolution Health's 22% increase in premiums.
Still a(nother) kick in the pants.

Get a quote from another insurer, maybe one of the direct ones, pass it on to your broker and ask them to match it with your current insurer. 9 times out of 10 your existing insurer will match the quote rather than lose the business (unless you claim a lot).

Hey, these insurers are a lot of skelms. They will use every trick in the book not to pay. Remember your normal insurance will NOT pay if you damage your vehicle on a 4x4 track or on a non recenised road. You must have special 4x4 insurance to cover that.

This is not strickly true - it will not be covered if there are an specifiec exclusion to this effect. Please talk to your broker or peruse the policy wording

This is not really true, as long as you used the vehicle within the manufacturer spec they have to cover it. Offroad usage (non competition) is within that spec.

I had a similar query some time ago and check up on this with both M&F and Santam.
