    Psssssstt ......
I've just received our invoice from the Khwai Dev Trust for Magotho camp January 2014 and battling to get my head around those prices, especially after reading these posts. Any suggestions for the wild camping option you mentioned?

So short sighted. Especially outside of peak season. Nobody is going to go there

It just does not feel right.
I was the first to ever camp in the spot where Maghoto now has become a major visitors magnet.
This was a long time ago in December 2001 and we were harassed by drunkards from the community hwo came in from an outing at Mababe with a trekker and thought hey can extort some cash from us.
To mention they were unsuccessful but on the next passage we found some bush clearings and about 5-6 parties from Gauteng with their caravans, the place looked like a shopping mall at night.
Ever since the people from the community have promised to develop and maintain the place but we all know the outcome.
Now the price hike just to milk the unsuspecting - I am going there one more time, then will do the drive through visits and find myself another spot to overnight.
Unfortunately the National Park guys have put up new "no entry" signs demarcating the Chobe NP where we used to cruise along the river in prime game viewing territory.

I just wonder, if I have a permit for Chobe (say Savuti / Linyanti) why can I not enter the park a bit further South?
    Just a thought - don't take this as a suggestion ;-))

This is exactly what I have predicted in June 2013 after the 55% tariff hike at 3rd Bridge; that the others will follow suit. I am sure this is not the end of it, the rest will become mad as well. So for a lot of Botswana mad self driving fanatics, this is the end of the line as we will not be able to afford it anymore. South Africa's reserves must me smiling with wringing hands for the opportunity to host these guys.
