The quickest way to get tranny down that pipe is to stick some clear pvc tubing down it and suck some atf out before you pour the tranny in, else it take hours to drain down there.

Lovely rains in our area. Took a few back roads just because...

And then once back on the tar, there was a downpour with enough water to clean it all off again ...

Thanks Guys, unfortunately the old unit needs to stay plugged in otherwise the radio has no sound, so I just removed the LCD screen part and put the Garmin in that space.

+1. Also want to replace the useless display / GPS but can't remove it on the HSE. Have no function on mine other than outdated maps.

Default What have you done with your Discovery today?

Ok guys, Here is my sort of how to guide. I didn't take any pictures as I started doing this not thinking I will have a result I would be happy with.

    1. Take the front H-Shaped plastic trim of around the radio unit. You just pull at the sides at the bottom of the panel. The rest of the panel just lifts off. There are some Youtube videos on how to do this, but it is very easy.

    2. There are 4 screws fastening the Sat-Nav unit (easily visible), just unscrew them, being carful not to drop any of the screws down the dash.

    3. With a bit of jiggling, the unit comes loose. Don't yank too much on it as it has 3 connectors plugged into it on the back. Once it is semi out, carefully unclip and disconnect the connectors and the voila, there you have the Sat-Nav unit out.

    4. Now for the work...unscrew the protector plate on the top, and you will see the LCD screen is a separate unit from the motherboard behind it.

    5. Carefully unclip the front plastic frame as well as the wire connected to it for the buttons.

    6. Next unscrew all the screws on the side of the unit, there where quit a few, I think there were about 6 or 8.

    7. Now when removing the screen part be careful with the ribbon cable. To disconnect it (on the motherboard side), lift up the metal strip and then also loosen the plastic bit where the cable comes in by pushing the corners backward (towards the cable). The ribbon cable will just pop loose, if you have to pull on it, then you haven't freed it up enough. This might be confusing, but I don't know how to explain this otherwise.

    8. There was a another wire connected to the LCD screen, disconnect that as well.

    9. Carefully remove the LCD screen from the unit and you will have this out...

Now the GPS I got was a Garmin Nuvi 67LM, it has a nice big 6" screen and fits perfectly behind the plastic frame, with about 5mm to spare on each side.

    10. The Charging cable feeds from the back of unit though a hole left by one of the screen connectors (that you now don't need anymore), but sits a little lower than the hole, so it pushes the Gps away from the back plate a bit. Get something to even out the gap on the right side of the back of the GPS, I just used some 2-way tape and a piece of plastic.

    11. Now level out the GPS by whatever means. I used some of that foam strips with the sticky back, just for the bottom, so it won't "sag" down. Now clip the original plastic frame back over the GPS screen.

    12. Now screw to top cover plate back and the 4 side screws (2 on each side)

    13. Fit the whole unit back in the dash and connect the 2 connectors to the back.

    14. Plug in the GPS into the front lighter socket and test that it turns off and on with the ignition. Also check that the radio still works and there is sound.

    15. Route the GPS power cable through right side of the dash and cable tie any slack there is. Be careful not to leave the wire where it might pinch when putting the cover back. I also just cable tied the wire against the bulky part of the charger going into the lighter socket, to keep it neat.

    16. Lastly put the H-Shape plastic cover back.

This whole process too me less than an hour to do, and I took my time and was careful when taking the unit apart. Please post questions if I was unclear about anything.

My Armrest on the D3 was split badly and gave it to The Leather Man here in Clarens to recover. He added padding also, R500 in all and a surprise LR Logo added, it looks great. He can do an exchange also having a spare cubby cover at hand, names and other logos also. PM me if you want his details.
