Not just today, but a busy week or actually a couple of weeks for Jerry, my Disco 2.

I recently bought the Disco but it had bad compression, starting difficulties and wear on the motor so I sent it to LRXtreme. The decision on which Indy was made easy by the amount of good reviews and referrals mostly from this forum. And I must say they are top notch. 👌

It had a complete overhaul done. The new motor now purrs like a lioness on heat 😎

Sold my D2! 5 kids going on 6 makes us a happy family of 8 early next year, my D2 was my hobby and i allready miss it,. I really don’t know what I’m going to do when the snow falls this Christmas. We are going electric with Nissan Leaf in addition to my vw T4. Cuz we need som extra seats...
the leaf costs 1000kr in loan, 400kr in top insurance, 36kr in road tax, i dont pay toll, free parking in town, and giving me 100km @ 15kr ( 15 cent per km ) if i charge at home. The D2 cost me 4500kr per month. So for me its a good decision economically. I will miss it when i ( will!) get stuck this comming winter.

Wow Loek, that must be the biggest jump in vehicle category ownership ever on this forum - from a Disco to a Leaf!

Managed to program a R300 eBay key fob with IIDTool this morning. For my D4 SE 2014 (pre-facelift) SDV6.

I required a bit of assistance from GAP-IIDTool, I had to update an ECU for this to work.

But all is fine now, the key works just as well as any Landrover key.

I decided to reactivate the turbo boost control solenoid on my Disco 2 Td5 today. Its was disconnected when I got the Disco so I wanted to see if the reasoning for disconnected it was valid. After being told that its better with the way it was by some and that it is better standard by others I decided to try it for myself. After connecting the pipes in the correct place I went for a test drive. Wow its a different car with very little low rpm lag like it had before. The original designers definitely got it right.

Agree!. Had mine "by-passed" when the solenoid packed up. Eventually went and got one from LR.
Definitely runs better with the solenoid in place. Not sure what it actually does or supposed to do, but it did make a noticeable difference in responsiveness.

I've had an intermittent snag with the driver side front window not working for a while and recently it stopped working all together. I had previously replaced the scissor mechanism as the guide rollers were broken but that didn't fix the problem. After some more research I found a post on landyzone that suggested checking the wiring in the area of the door hinge as they have found that the wires have gone hard over time and they break off. I opened up the door panel and the rubber tube that the loom runs through. It didn't take much fault finding as the one wire was broken off completely and the other was almost broken off too. Fixed them with 2 splices and put it all back together. Window works perfectly every time now.

    Hi Paul,

Could you post link to the article you found on Landyzone.
Ive got a similar problem on one of my rear windows, however it keeps popping a fuse and reading what you say im wondering if the wires may have broken and now shorting out against something.

The rear windows control doesn't go through the body computer like the front windows but there is a nice circuit diagram posted in the thread giving both systems. Hope you get sorted out.

Question please for those that know...

I have the option of Nanocom and iCarsoft for the D3 as diagnostic tools. Both units are secondhand. In your experience what would be the pitfalls buying them secondhand and is there any hidden costs like registration etc that I need to consider?

I can't speak for the iCarsoft, but the Nanocom is not registered to a particular user. You need to enter the Nanocom ID if you want any support form the manufacturer, so that would probably denote ownership by default.
As for "hidden costs", you need to buy the software and a cable for each vehicle and engine within the series, but that allows access to ALL vehicles in the type, not just your VIN.

The headlights plastic lenses on my Disco 2 facelift had started looking a bit shabby. They had a yellow tinge and slight pitting from road sandblasting. I did a quick polish with the G3 compound I use to polish cars after respraying. With the air driven polisher it took about 30 minutes a side but made a big mess. The end result is very good even though I didn't take out all the deep pitting. Click image for larger version.

Headlights have a UV inhibiting coating that eventually fails and then the yellowing starts, apparently good quality 2k clear has UV inhibitors and of you refinish headlights with that after being polished it stops them going yellow again?

Having painted different materials with 2K type paints, if you don't use the correct hardener / thinners for that specific material it all turns to shite. I'd rather do a bit of polishing every now and again than spray the wrong chemicals onto the headlights and turn them into chewing gum.

I highly doubt 2k will do that to headlight lens plastic, its very hardy and resistant stuff, I have seen a headlight that was polished and then sprayed with 2k clear and it looked factory fresh.

Also common for people to spray headlight housings when doing blackout type mods and I haven't heard issues or seen warnings of potential paint reactions as a result of 2k. Granted its probably easiest to spray the headlight removed and that's typically a pretty mammoth task so that's a good enough reason on its own not to do it.
