Rebuilt the power panel in the back of the drawer system. Switches for the fridge, work light and rack mounted leds. Included a volt/amp metre and fused grouped outputs independently. Ready for our road trip 😀

Looking good. That back bumper looks very square and meaningful, not like some of the soft, gentle looking stuff I've seen.

I love it when cars tailgate me now... almost looking for a reason to hit the brakes, hard...

If the Disco's were hard before, then the 5mm steel added has just increased that strength a few fold. Loving it. Rocksliders going on tomorrow!!!!!

I got one for my Disco 2 Td5 from 4x4 Direct. If I remember correctly it was about R1500.00 and I fitted it myself. I found the flex connection between the wheel arch and the airbox was in bad shape and leaking a lot. I covered it with the sealant I used during the installation. As good as new after the repair.

I did a little bit of panel beating on my Landy when the bumper had gone brittle with age. Nothing like a bit of Q Bond and some spot filler and spray paint

These are not the finished photos, she's still a work in progress. Need to do a bit more filling and sanding, then get rid of the runs from the glue then give her a better spraying

I inherited an old tired Disco 1 200 tdi auto from my late father and have decided to rebuild it.

My Defender had a face to face meeting the other day.

    Hi Fourie
Is that a frontrunner rrack? Mine only had small 4cm diffuser in front, so windnoise is really bad over 110kph.

Yours seem to have one that seals to the roof with a rubber. How is the windnoise at highway speeds?

I wonder if they will sell it seperately

I've opted to use only half the rack to assist with reducing noise.
I had a noticeable drop in performance and increase in fuel consumption when I'd used 2 sets of the original wind deflectors, placed at the front as per your images, as I'd noticed it created a wind pocket at speeds.

Do you find the same with performance and consumption with the new design, as there is still an air pocket between the bottom of the first bar and the new design deflector?
Would you say the noise is just as quiet as without the rack or do you get the feeling of being in a plane?
With the original, universal design deflectors it turned the disco from limo to wind turbine
It's not leaking oil, it's sweating power!

    Hi Bennie

Yes its a Frontrunner rack with the new 'Wind Fairing' as stated on the website. (Only available for Discovery 3 & 4 at this stage). It's difficult to tell what wind noise should have been as I did fit both the rack and the wind fairing at the same time. The wind noise is very obvious as the car is dead quiet without the rack. I must say the wind noise in general is not as bad as I thought it would be. What is rather annoying is a whistling noise coming from the rack that I would like to solve.

Time will tell what fuel consumption will be after fitting the rack. Like I said earlier you can definitely hear the wind noise, but then I did not expect anything less. What basically happens is you take a very well designed and quiet vehicle and you fit a very basic non aerodynamic piece of stretched out ladder on its roof. There will be a difference. I will still play around to try figure out where the whistling noise come from. But in essence driving 90km/h or 140km/h the wind noise is very much the same.
