    Default Not a spider bite

    Hi Folks

Had a lot of queries over the past couple of weeks about spider bites. So… in response to all the emails and phone calls please see the following.

You know you have NOT been bitten by a spider when:

    - Multiple bite like lesions on a single person especially if the lesions are spread over different parts of the body.

    - Multiple instances of lesions are experienced over a long period of time.

    - More than one person displays the same kind of lesions in the same household.

Multiple or re-occuring bite like lesions indicate some kind of contagious bacterial infection such as STAPH or an infestation of some kind of biting arthropod such as fleas, bed bugs, ticks or mites.

    Kind regads

    Hi Folks

If you think that mites, fleas and bed bugs only live in dirty, disgusting houses they you are wrong! They are all alive and well in the average home.

Next time you get a chance to have a look down a microscope, pluck out an eyebrow hair and have a look at it. It's a microscopic zoo of mites and lice :-) I won't begin to describe what you have down in your nether regions.

And you know what? You're not a healthy person if you don't have them!

They are not all filthy scary aliens some of the mites are quite handsome

The fellow below is a red velvet mite, looks like a tick with a red velvet suit.
As adults they are full predators but in the juvenile stages they parasitise insects.
An inquisitive eye will find beauty almost everywhere

In India, the oil from T. grandissimum is coveted. Natives believe the deep red oil holds many medical benefits, and people gather the mites during the short time they emerge from the soil to sell in the local bazaars. The oil is strongly believed to be an aphrodisiac. Current research regarding the oil from the Giant Red Velvet Mite looks promising.
