Yes, admittedly it seems like no-one talks ever.

Then again, I've asked some of my questions with my 4x4 club too, being, is there a guideline in terms of what "channel" to use? Or is it a free for all and just scan and talk where ever you see fit? I am sure this is perhaps one of the reasons. Then again, we have our own channel too, no-one talks there either haha. I am sure the daddy-long-leg spiders are accumulating in the radio's finals...

The other thing is, back at the old job where I was mobile for most of the day, I once heard people talk on one of the orra's, and when I tried to establish contact, they promptly relocated to another channel, it was clear they didn't want another person there...

Seems like I'm one of the guilty ones who seem to be more on ham radio than the 4x4 freq's... It's just ded!

I doubt people get these radios for urban comms, but rather for comms on trails and outings.

    Most does.

I monitor Orra 1 in the house though, and Orra 1-6 in the vehicle always.

The banter has become less and less. Much more active in the Jhb area than Pta.

My Orra radio is on Orra 1 most of the time when I drive, actually need to get scanning enabled on the radio...

On another note, the Ham radio guys, which frequency do you guys normally listen on? My dad is visiting here from George this week and he said he would like to add some more contacts to his list...

If your dad is a Ham, we'll tell him, not you.

Seriously, just have him tune in to the local repeaters here.

There is at least three that I know of.

This knowledge should be easily obtainable for him being a Ham.

If not, send me a pm and I will advise.
