Default New 4x4 Trail In the Making - Brits

For those of you who looking to try out a new 4x4 trail not too far from JHB/PTA, Attie the owner of "At Se Gat", approx 10km outside Brits on the Thabazimbi road, is in the process of building a trail in the Krokodilpoort area, right next to the Crocodile River. Check out some pictures taken recently as we took on this still new and fairly raw, but interresting trail.. There are nice braai spots next to the river with some breathtaking scenery. Will post contact details later for those who wish to check it out.

Keep us posted. Perhaps we can get a large group of guys from the 4x4 Action Group & a large Forum crowd together & come inaugurate the Trail!

Thanks Guys. Attie is an extremely eager guy and would appreciate any advice at this stage. It is unreal what he has managed to achieve over the last 2 months. You should pay him a visit if you are in the vicinity - he has a lekker bos bar right on the river bank.

Looks cool. How long is the trail / how much time does it take to complete the trail?

Chris, the trail is still in the making and I haven't timed it yet, but I guess it will keep you busy for at least 2hrs. There aren't any markings yet and at this stage there aren't any trail fees. Attie wants to hear from the 4x4 fraternity what type of obstacles they would like to see on the trail. The roads up the mountain are still pretty much covered with loose soil and fist-sized rocks and will keep you busy for some time - trust me. Attie however is very devoted and will probably accompany anyone wishing to explore the trail and in the process listen to everyone's recommendations.

Default New 4x4 Trail In the Making - Brits

Methinks I should scratch around & find a free Saturday.
Organise a group & head out there... have some fun & give the guy some exposure.

johanswift why not ask the owner to invite the 4x4Forum to come up with a name for his trail.
Then we can visit & suggest names the obstacles.

Manny, Attie is from the BBC Regime (Born Before Computers). It will take a while to introduce him to the forum..

His place is known as At Se Gat - that's what is written on a hand-made sign next to the road. The place is fairly primitive but offers some breathtaking scenery.

I will gladly join you should you find some time to go there. He is also teaming up with his neighbor who also has a very nice grade 3 type route on his game farm up the mountain with a huge cross on top (visible from the road). The 2 places complement each other and will be a very good alternative for those who have done Hennops and De Wildt for the umpteenth time!

Sien uit na 'n nuwe trail... Hou ons op hoogte. Dalk kan die ouens 'n lys maak van die obstacles wat hulle wil sien?

    1. Axle twisters
    2. Inclines/declines
    3. Water Crossing
    4. 2 Very technical obstacles?
    5. Sand
    6. Mud

Must have difficult sections with escape routes.

Got a message from Attie this morning, together with some pics. They are busy building a water crossing over a rocky section of the river close to the bar. Looks like great fun and an awesome place to takes pictures of your 4x4! Will be done before the end of the week.

Maybe a camping site as well? Maybe he should go have a look at Kungwini? I like their setup. I like the Idea that they have a basic section and then an advanced section.

    Bogaards,

There are basic camping facilities with an awesome view of the river and plenty of shade. The neighboring game farm (about 1km away) also has a lovely spot with a cluster chalet setup that can accommodate up to 10 people. This is a very scenic spot and further extends the 4x4 route. Attie can give you more info.

Most of the obstacles you have listed do exist. There are also sections that very few will be able to conquer - at least for now until such time that the loose soil and rocks have settled.

At the moment funding is limited, which is why most of the alterations are done by himself in person with some help from the locals.

I had to recover an Isuzu that got stuck on one of the challenging sections up the mountain late Sunday afternoon.. Must say, I quite enjoyed the rescue mission..

I can say that I took a video of a Colt battling uphill on a very loose section of the road over the weekend. I have to add his rear diff-lock was not engaging..

For those of you who wish to contact Attie: 0seven3 six24 five7onefour. I will be heading out there Saturday morning with a few other vehicles. He is currently busy building a rocky section in the river bed - looking forward to check it out on Saturday.
