    Default Reputable engineering in Windhoek

An American contact of mine is looking for a reputable engineering workshop to undertake a repair. Can any of our Namibian members recommend anything please? This guy is well known in offroading circles in the States so I'd like to show him that we can pull finger if possible.

Please post here, or pm me, or email spike at spike dotcoza. thanks

I'm wondering if you can assist me in finding some help for one of our trailer owners.

He has a Chaser trailer that he has towed from London to Beijing, he shipped it to SA and then drove it to Namibia. It is now in Windhoek while he and his family have returned to the UK until March. John the owner is a really nice guy but he is very technically challenged-!! On his trip to Beijing he managed to run the trailer with airbags on the suspension flat for hundreds of kilometers and screwed things up royally.

We sent him out a complete replacement suspension including extras and mechanical drawings for installation that were fitted in Bishkek. Unfortunately John did not keep an eye on the repair and it was done incorrectly. New brackets for the suspension were welded onto old damaged brackets instead of the old brackets being cut off an new brackets welded into place. The result was that the pivot rods for the trailing arm suspension ended up being too short due to the increased thickness of the brackets.

We suggested to John that he have the repair work re done correctly in SA to avoid any further problem, but it looks like he chose not to follow our suggestion. On his trip through Namibia one of the pivot rods broke, probably because the weight of the trailer was on the threaded portion of the rod instead of the main portion.

I suggested to John he finds a machine shop locally to have new longer rods made. As we have not seen the repair work and have no measurements to go off we don't know how long the rods would have to be.

Do you or any of your contacts have a recommendation for a good machine shop in Windhoek who you thing could do the work?

Thanks you for any help you can provide.

Default List of reputable mechanical help resources

May I suggest we create a list of organisations/people we can turn to if we strike mechanical problems.
I will put in a third Namibian organisation -in Oshakati.
I cannot complient Northern Auto repairs in Oshakati enough. They were quick, professional, and did a first-class job. Tel 065 221802 or 0811 273836
