The EWTalk and Dinner at The Country Club Johannesburg (Auckland Park)
2nd July 2013
Spiders and Scorpions Demystified
Presented by
Jonathan Leeming - Leading expert on Southern African spiders and scorpions.
Spiders and scorpions have been perceived to be the scourge of mankind for thousands of years. We have a very negative perception of them but is their reputation justified? Do we really swallow 8 spiders in our lifetimes while we are asleep? Do Violin Spiders lurk in the dark corners of our houses? Are the red scorpions really more venomous than the black scorpions?
Jonathan Leeming is a leading expert on Southern African spiders and scorpions. He is the author of Scorpions of Southern Africa, and has written for Africa Geographic and Getaway Magazine, and contributed to National Geographic Magazine. Consultant for BBC Wildlife and National Geographic television and film, Jonathan is a professional speaker and conservationist at heart. His latest publication, a First Aid Guide to Spider Bites and Scorpion Stings is challenging perceptions and changing the way we look at these fascinating creatures.
In this entertaining and informative presentation, Jonathan will share his insight into one of the planet’s most misunderstood creatures, dispel the myths, and present the facts.
Jonathan will have his books available for purchase at the talk. Please feel free to purchase from him, 10% of sales will be donated to the Endangered Wildlife Trust.
The EWT looks forward to seeing you all for a very special evening at the Country Club Johannesburg. Please book early to avoid disappointment
