That would be a brilliant idea. The only reason I don't have a permit yet is because I simply do not have the time to go out and get one

Not really, the actual permit is valid for the day thats written on it.
You hand it in , its now gone as the guard tears the one half off. You have the other half as proof.

Quite right Ian, I was just voicing an idea to buy more than one permit up front...

Can we as a forum not set up something where a guy who maybe has more time on his hands and is closer to the offices gets permits on other's behalf? I see that they do allow it. Then you can drop the necessary documents with him the night before, and pick up your permit when you can? At a fee of course. Just an idea. It would help those of us who simply don't have the time during the day, and will put some extra cash in the pocket of whoever is willing to offer their services...

We had the meeting with Dept of Bio Diversity today, regarding the permits, so here is some feedback:

We shared some of the frustrations you all mentioned above, as well as some of our own experiences & observations. They were on the same page & were grateful for the input.

Bio Diversity do already have infrastructure in place where permits for surrounding reserves can be sold over weekends, etc. So an obvious solution would be to sell AD permits at some of those Reserves.

However, the current sale of Permits is currently administered through the Dept of Bulk water, not Bio Diversity.

So, there are plans underway for a Bio Diversity office to be built at AD, at Gate 1. This may include a visitors centre & possibly even a coffee shop, etc. We were shown the plans. Once this facility is in place then it would make perfect sense to introduce the sale of permits at this complex.

It is envisaged that this could take around 2 years. The EIA process could take up to a year.

So all is good, it'll just take a little longer. I hope this helps.

    Thanks for the feedback Neil!

Whatever the plan decided on would have taken time I'm sure. This is good news though, but I'm also quietly thinking that AD is bound to get quite busy over weekends

If access to permits was made easier, there would be much higher utilization.... which of course means more income, but also more people on the dunes.... so... suppose a double edged sword...

Great thing is that there is communication happening, and the powers that be have abviously taken note and realised that it is worthwhile, and that there is representation from the interested parties. Well done guys, for working to secure the dunes>

Glad to hear there is a new way of thinking....you see if you get the right people on both sides to do the talking and planning, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Our visitors from out of town will welcome this move, as they can then also visit the Dunes without the hindrance of obtaining a permit at certain times and locations, which aren't convenient to them.

We need to start thinking around the dunes being a protected area in terms of its bio diversity and the water, Much the same as you can use the Keoberg reserve you will be able to use the Atlantis Reserve as long as you adhere to the rules. This will take time but it is happening.

    Hi
I spoke to the chap at the Total Garage yesterday and he is more than willing to sell permits for the Atlantis Dunes . He is already a vendor for electricity for the council and I am sure something could be worked out.

Dear Andrew and all other interested parties
I have put your request to council and they are not allowed to sell permits via third parties. Something to do with some financial act to do with councils and money.
Sorry but we will have to wait to change the permits system.

Sorry if i missed it earlier in the thread, but where can one obtain a day permit on a saturday? Also, is an ID essential, or do they accept passports/drivers licences
