    Question Advice needed: LC76

    Hi

I am in the market for a Land Cruiser for over-landing purposes . Been searching online for sometime and have noticed some very interesting trends in pricing of these vehicles.

Nevertheless I came across one that I am quite interested in. It's a 2009 76 (I think that's the right number) S/W. It has 146000 km's on it and was previously a rental vehicle so also fairly kitted out with dual battery, storage system, roof rack, compressor, extra lights on body, rear bumper with 2 spares... I can get it for 280K.

Test drove it... drives nice but break pedal was a bit "jumpy". The dealer will road worthy and fix any issues picked up.

Is this a good deal? Is there something else I should be checking for? I asked if we go ahead with the deal that they send it to Safari Centre to get the accessories tested also.

    Any advice will be appreciated

Not 100% on the price, but that car will give you many many years of service.

Only mod you need is the gearbox mod that Swart Jan does to aid the lubrication in the gearbox. He upgrades some bearings and then adds a oil pump that makes sure the oil gets everywhere.

The brake pedal, tell the dealer to redo the brakes. Not to skim the discs and the drums, but to replace them.

Yes, that car is a donkey, but it is the tortoise and hare scenario. It is a bit of a tortoise, but it will bring you home, every time.

renewable it sounds like a great deal, you need to post pictures or we won't believe you. I would recommend TSA gives it a descent service say 150000km included in deal and you speak to service manager yourself. And the accessories check is good idea.

    In ZA, only 4.2N/A.

We are expecting the D4D 4.5 V8 in October 2013

Swart Jan has a 4500EFI, but it was a conversion that he did himself. But that is the only one in ZA.

    Goes like the clappers.

    hi Henris and Gnundy

Thanks a mill for the advice and tips. I will chat to the dealer tomorrow and see what they are prepared to give me as part of the price. They have already discounted by 20K.

As per Henris - it is a 4.2 Diesel.

Henris - apologies I don't know who Swart Jan is. I am assuming he has a workshop somewhere? is it possible to get contact details. I am new to the LC world. Been driving a Pajero for the last 2 years

If all goes well... will definitely post some pics! 8)

Question Any idea what these mean?

    hi all,

So the road worthy is done and at my cost I asked the dealer to send the Cruiser to Toyota for a quality check.

They came back with 7 minor (according to the sales guy) issues that the dealer is more than happy to fix at their cost.

I don't know much about motor mechanics (hope to learn fast though) so I was wondering if any of you could tell me if any of the items below are big issues or indeed minor:

    From the Toyota report:

1 - Transfer box oil is leaking
    2 - Brake Shoes Binding
3 - Right front wheel bearing is loose
4 - Front CV joint kit is leaking grease
5 - Right park light is not working (globe)
6 - Rear side shaft seals
    7 - Rear wheel bearings

    Need some insight please

    thanks!
