    Default Check Engine Light :(

My check engine light has come on 4 or 5 times now over the last couple weeks, with the engine then going into limp mode. When I stop the engine idles at about 1500 rpm. I then turn off and when I turn the ignition back on everything goes back to normal - light off and idle normal.

This has happened at various driving conditions (N2 @120km/h, town @ 50km/h, etc).

I initially suspected the battery so replaced that, but no help.

Any suggestions or similar experiences? Engine is stock standard. Will the ECU store the error codes to be read?

ECU will store error codes. Take it to someone that can do the reading. Side note, on my Ranger the ECU stored low battery warnings and that affected almost every electrical component controlled by the ECU.

On the Opels, you could "read" the fault codes your self.

How do you do it on Isuzus?

You can buy OBDII readers pretty cheap online. I have borrowed a friends to read the codes tomorrow but have also ordered this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-Mini-E...c5a538&vxp=mtr online. It sends the codes via bluetooth to an app on your android phone and displays all sorts of useful (read nerdy) stuff. It can also show and reset a DTC / CEL / fault code.

Reading the error codes confirmed it is a throttle position sensor (TPS) error.

    OK, still struggling with this.

I tested the TPS now, Supply 5.0V, GND is good (0V / 3 Ohm to battery negative terminal). Closed throttle measures 0.3V but wide open throttle gives 3.6V. Sweeping the throttle between the two positions produces a nice linear change in voltage with no erratic readings. The workshop manual I have indicates the 0.3V is spot on but the wide open throttle reading should be around 4.75V. The OBD error code was P1120 - Pedal / throttle position sensor circuit high input. Does this error code correlate with what I am measuring?

This problem only presents itself once in a while so I was expecting to find something like a dodgy connection or erratic TPS output voltage, instead of a constant low WOT voltage reading. I am reluctantly willing to be ripped off with R3500 for a potentiometer that should cost R50, but I definitely don't want to replace it in vain! BTW, the TPS is a Hitachi SERA486-08...

Mine also came on every now and then. Took the o-ring off the fuel cap and haven't had the problem again, yet.

280 does not even have a "check Engine light" Nothing to check, just works!

    Mine did the same thing.
I cleaned all the muck out of the watertrap on the chassis and now it is sorted.

    Hello
I came across an article where the writer explained how he made a small circuit with resistors, and connected it to the diesel pump stop solenoid. This provided some feedback to the computer module so stop the flashing check engine light. This was over a year ago, and I have tried searching high and low but cannot find it.
If anyone know this link, please provide.
My solenoid is long bypassed / removed, which has saved me from being stranded on 3 occasions, so I am not going back to this config. I just want to stop the warning light from flashing because of that.

    On a 2001 Isuzu KB 280

    Thanks
