    Hi Wendel,
thanks for your nice report. I'm planning to go in October the same route from Mana Pools to Hwange. I travel alone with my wife (only one car) and like to make a stopover in Mucheni View Camp for one night. Is it nessesary to make a reservation in advance? What about bush camping along the route? What do you think, is it safe for "white" tourists in this area?
Thanks for your help and the best wishes from the rainy, old germany.
    Peter

    Hi Wendel,
Nice report, I will post a more condensed report shortly.

We spent 3 nights at Chitake 2 from 1-3 June. The shade tree was not worth much as it had a lot of fruit (figs) so the mess from the parrots in the day and the bats at night made one avoid it. I think Chitake 1 is a much nicer campsite, we did not have much animal activity in the area and I would not really say one can see the river either.

    Hello Peter

There are a number of Camp Sites at Chizarira so you could take a chance and not make a booking. If you really want to stay Mucheni View it would be better to make a booking. It is difficult for me to answer your question regarding the safety of bush camping. We never experienced any problems while in Zimbabwe so in our limited experience it was safe. Perhaps some other forum members more qualified to answer would like to respond. We live in Pretoria South Africa, and at all times I felt safer in Zimbabwe than I feel at home! Gruesse. Wendel

Thank you Malcolm. I see there are many queries regarding Chitake 2, and your reply gives some useful information to all interested visitors, as you have actually camped there.

    Default State of Karoi-Binga Rd

Please could you tell us the state of the Karoi Binga Road with regards to CORRUGATIONS. We can handle rocky and washed away and really slow and high middle-mannetjie, but CORRUGATIONS get the better of us... Is it corrugated just in a few areas, or is the majority of the road bone-rattling? I read it was graded around Dec last year...?

Has anyone got GPS points for the so called short-cut "power-cable" alternative road to Kariba from the main Karoi-Binga Road? Instead of going round via Makuti and Karoi. Any advice would be most welcome...
