    Default What are they worth?

Hi gents, would just like to tickle your brains a bit.

A good friend's father in law passed away late last year and now his wife wants to sell some of his things.

Among them are two old series Landy's which she would like to know how much they are worth.

First is a 1960 Series 2 fitted with a v6(I presume Ford) motor. Body in good shape but it has a electrical problem(sounds like the wiring harness has to be replaced).

Second is a 1980 Series 3 fitted with a Ford v8 & auto gearbox. As far as I can understand this one in good condition allround.

I have not seen the two but am waiting for pictures to post.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

I cannot give you a value but I have experienced that Landies with non original motors do not sell so lekker. People prefer the original motors

I think the series 2 will fetch the same amount as the series 3. Especially if the bodywork is in good condition.

They will be in good luck if they get 25K for a non standard Series. I've seen to many "projects" bought for next to nothing and the engines chucked to make way for an oil sieve 2.25. When they changed hands again the price is much higher.

As sad as it might sound, a higher yield might involve some time and effort in selling parts !

The runner S3 should be sold for as high as possible and as soon as possible - around R25k max I would think.

Spoke to the sun in-law this morning and the series 2 does not sound good. The lisence is 8 years behind and the entire harness has to be replaced but the rest of it sounds to be in good order(says he who has never seen it).

It's standing at a auto elec. and he offerd R10k but he is going to charge them R3k for storage as it has been standing at his shop for the past year and the oustanding lisence fees(R7k) is for the owners account so he will subtract it from the offered amount thus he will just take it her hands.

Thanks for the reply's so far, I'll place pic's as soon as I have them but I am not pushing to hard as the tannie is still trying to get her life back on track

Also be interesting to know what chassis and Bodys they have, ie. Pup /5 door & lwb/swb. e.g The series 3 might well be an R6 with the old Rover motor swopped out.

Between 30 and 40k for both, I'd say.

We all hope the Tannie will get more, but I'm talking money-in-the-bank prices here.

Please let me know about the SWB, I'd like to have a look and make an offer.

I'm going to Wellington on Monday. Try and get me details then I can take some descent pictures.

I kinda know what to look for so, forum members interested, could make a better decision.

And NO I want a series 1 - so nothing in it for me
